Well, the weather man says I have 30 minutes before a potentially damaging storm hits my neighborhood. Naturally I get to thinking about my trees. I have one chained together that is between two of my buildings and I know could split in a good wind. I call the neighbor to run my skidsteer, I put a rope in it, notch, backcut, 2 wedges, and pull it over with minutes to spare. I cut the tree down with my 394 wearing a 24" bar, didn't quite reach all the way through. The storm didn't end up too bad in my area, tree would have survived, others weren't so lucky.

Here is the tree.

Here is the aftermath.

I cleaned up what I could and then went to my sisters for a family get together. We ended up playing some baseball and I got to show off some of my climbing skills.

Getting the stuck baseball you see above my right hand.

I had a great weekend!

Oldirty, the chain was loosely holding the two leads of the tree together for safety. If one would have broke off the other would have caught it, and I could bring her down safely from there. If the storm was what it was predicted to be, I figured the whole thing would go and I wasn't going to be crying in my beer if it did. I didn't like where the seam was vs. the windsail. Had to bring her on down. I'll get some great firewood from it, it'll go right in the shed.

This one should be full too by the end of the summer.

when i first saw the chain pictures and read about you I knew it wouldn't be long before you chopped that tree down. That is why I said the chain was the best thing you could have done. Although that tree was most assuredly a hazard it was still only a little tree. Plant another.

Where's you PPE in those climbing pics, Nails? You konw that's totally unacceptable. /sarcasm

Good lord Nails!!! FREE CLIMBING?!?!?

Good drop job... love the wood shed!

hey bud i knew what you were doing with that chain in the tree. my question was what did you need the chain for now? you needed a chain, didnt feel like climbing to go get it so you fell the tree. "firewood" you say. lol
