I recently purchased a 260 pro chainsaw. (bought off Ebay) What I didn't realize that it only had 2 adjustments for the carb a high screw and only one screw for the low side and the idle adjustment. I can't get it adjusted if it idles it loads up when you try to accelerate if i lean it out it will die when it comes off of the low idle to the idle. The stihl dealer told me to put a new 3 screw carb just curious if there is a place to find parts number. (stihl is very protective of there products and don't like to give out information parts numbers ext. they make it so you have to go to their dealers) I would like to buy a carb some other place so i don't have to go through him prices are high. Or would anybody recommend rebuilding that carb that was originally on it.

Just looking for some help

As was mentioned by Jokers in the other thread you replied to, proper adjustments can make that carb work better than you are currently experiencing, or the other solution is to replace the carb with a 3 screw fully adjustable model and get away from the fixed jet carb issues. Rebuilding the carb that is on it will likely not do anything, it is the adjustments to it that will make the difference.

Here`s a copy and paste of my reply to you from the other thread where you spoke of this problem.

"I`ll take the liberty of telling you to check the metering lever height, it`s crucial on fixed hi speed jet carbs like what some 260s have. This simple adjustment may correct your problems.

Walbro WT426(Stihl proprietary) is the most common 3 screw carb for the 260. The WT 194 will also work. The 426 is about $70 from a dealer. I know a few places where you can get the carb cheaper."

If you can get the lo speed adjusted properly, you can also change the fixed orifice(about $5) for the hi speed jet, or simply ream the existing jet if you are experiencing a lean condition on top end, which seems to be most common.

If you can`t adjust the lo speed, your problems obviously extend beyond the scope of this thread and a 3 screw carb won`t help. You`ll need to start looking for other problems, mostly air leaks, on this saw.

I echo Jokers comments. And elevation/altitude makes a difference on carb adjustments too. Because I'm above 5000' and operate up to 8000', I've put a "used" WT 194, 3 jet carb, usually with a rebuild kit, in the 026's and 260's around here. Plus, I've increased the size of the muffler exhaust ports on all of them too. Little noisy; but, gives you a power boost to get rid of that back pressure in the muffler.

If you go to the WT 194, adjust the L and LA for optimum starting. And fine tune adjust the H while you are running at top speed, under load, in a good sized log. Obviously let some one else make the cut, while you adjust the H jet, the sound will tell you when you are there. That's how I've tuned all the 026 and 260's in this area.

In fact that's how I adjust the H jet in all the saws. Perfomance is the bottom line.

I have a brand new Walbro Wt-426 for $40.00 shipped to your door. I sold my 026 and don't need this (actually THESE as I have 3!)

Jeez, I was gonna offer him one for $30 but I didn`t want to ruffle any feathers by making a public offering and I wouldn`t want to get caught using the PM system.

fwiw the wt 427 will also fit and the 426 & 427 are both compensating carbs Youmay have some luck on ebay but it looks like these guys are taking good care of you. My fixed jet carb ran fine but the saw was fat on the hi jet and my plug had significant black soot. But like I said it was reliable and started perfect.
