Hi,

I have a leaky crank case gasket but cannot find it anywhere. Did any other models share crank gasket?

Also what are the odds of finding a decent crankshaft as main bearing is showing wear however not causing any issues yet.

To make things trickier im based in New Zealand

Any advice much appreciated

Welcome to the groups, I don't know this particular saw but I did a quick search on parts.
Someone that does know this particular saw will probably be around shortly.

I did not find any crankshafts.

Thank you for the warm welcome and replies. Eparts has good selection if only postage wouldnt come to more then the saw is worth. Definitely ordering the gasket kit. Thats a great find.

Make your own new case gasket- it aint too hard and back in the day when most any part was hard to find- we cut them out of things like cereal boxes and telephone book covers.
Admittingly, the card gaskets were then sprayed with a sealer (think from memory it was a loctite product?) but the worked and were easy to make.
You can ink up one face of one half of the case- lay it on gasket paper and transfer the ink for a template. Punch the bolt holes and case alignment pin holes (sharpened EMPTY brass cartridge cases make excellent gasket punches) and then cut the interior of the gasket close as you can- the outside does not need to be as neat and can be trimmed flush after the case halves are bolted together.

Failing that- I am willing to bet either SES DIRECT Ltd, or Mikes Chainsaw & Outdoor Power, or SUPREME DIRECT can sell you an aftermarket gasket kit for the saw- which might even include crank seals, but have you asked a genuine Husqvarna dealer yet? Many of them can still get 2## series saws parts- there is just a bit of a waiting game/back order thing to play with usually.

254se, 254xp, 257 and 262xp all share the same case gasket. 257 and 262xp share the same crankshaft. They all share the same bearings (6202) and seals. As said above, you can go to an auto parts store and get gasket material and make your own. Loctite Spray-a-Gasket is a good easy to use sealer.

Got crc high temp red stuff and placed orders at ses and mikes. Between the 2 of them they had most bits. Thanks

I noticed that people have mentioned 8 and 9 pin rims as opposed to 7 standard. any idea where i could lay my hands on such or what the codes might be?

From the same Kiwi suppliers I mentioned to try for gasket sets- or any OEM Husqvarna dealership- but for a 262XP? I think I would be sticking to a 7 for 3/8 chain and Kiwi conditions.

Thanks i tried but they havent got any. Husqvarna said they never made small 8t 3/8 Saw has plenty of power for 8t.
Muffler is opened up, timing advanced and ports done, real tight squish running 100+ octane from NPD
184psi compression.

Husqvarna didnt- but aftermarket did. If anyone here stocks them- more than I could tell you.
Maybe consider making it a .325 saw to give you more options.
Or sell it and build the same on a 266.

Thx. 272 is a kilo heavier and way slower for not much more power
Just picked up a 257 for 100nzd as iv got a spare 262 top end. Will try one as .325
Just need to find carb manifold, filter holder and top cover to turn it into 262.
