Ive got 266se case and crank, a 61; case, crank, piston, cylinder, coil. If what I read is accurate these are basically the same model most of the parts will interchange, mostly. At this point I need an intake carb elbow and filter setup recoil and air shroud( maybe?) and a tank . My question is this, Can I put a 272 P&C on it will all others being the same? Or am I better off just assembling a 61/266 saw? Thanks for the input

I deleted the base gasket on the 266xpg and Nmurph opened the muff. 195 psi at a mile high, no not standing on a marijuana leaf, and torquey with more than enough juice to pull a 28 although I run a 24 on it. It be a wonderful saw.

The 272's are done up the same, and wear 28's. One of them is going to get ported this month. My 372 sits and waits.....

I'm still sorting out that j-red jug....

Wow looks like I better get busy....humpty humpty humpty hump .....bing 28 seems long though skip? Well at least ive got something to shoot for

I'm a Stihl dealer and I have mad respect for that line of saws. I'm currently working on a 162SE that I'm putting a 268 top end on.

your still working on that project? :D wasn't that like beginning of the year you started that  you like the husky :). if you worked on more of the others you'd have mad respect for the rest of them too. they are just simply better saws :numberone:

That 266xpg has the flywheel generator on it adding some extra torque..... I cut the base on a MS440 and squished it at .019, and could not get it to cut with my 266xpg. So I traded the 440 to a tree service for a tree removal. My 266 has a Gilardoni jug on it. I have not yet seen a 61 so I'm not sure what the jugs look like or how they preform. The Gilardoni jug is a nice piece of work for sure. However the two piece ignitions can be a PITA.... and expensive to replace

I got the 162SE going with the stock cylinder and a new piston, base gasket delete and gutted muffler. Ran great !! I scored a 268 cylinder on the Christmas thread, so I'm porting it and waiting for a piston. It'll run mo 'betta ;)

I just can't warm up to the plastic fantastic 3 and 5 series saws like I do the metal earlier ones.

i haven't worked on the older husky's in a while. built 100's in the past but now tailing the end of a 2 year brake from them. kinda ready to build another 288. i got a 281 here i did a bit of work to and it just added fuel to the fire. warming up to a plastic fantastic stihl is no different then warming up to a plastic fantastic husky ;). i like the plastic. my best way to explain it is the compare something. running an old all mag saw is like driving an old all metal interior truck from the 60's. freeze your damn balls off in discomfort driving those old turds. funny thing is that the only thing plastic from that 162 to a 3xx saw is the fuel tank and filter mount and the only thing from there going to a 5xx saw is a plastic oiler housing which IMO isn't a problem either. the older ones have that plastic intake so it balances out. everything that needs to be mag is still mag.

I have some of all the series of hooskies. from a 65L to a 576xp. I prefer running the 200's. Strength, handling, ease to work on, power to weight. They are perfect saws for a guy of my repair and build ability. I like being able to interchange case halves, use name brand aftermarket bearings, run Tygon or Excelon for fuel lines.....

I do not have any light 200 series saw that I would prefer to my 346xp though.....

all husky case halfs will interchange. you must be having flashback nightmares of trying the mix match stihl cases ;). i like the 2xx series as well but i like the AV and handling of the newer ones better. if i wanted to run the old ones you can bet your ass i would be. i'm not saying they lack power by any means. just saying the newer ones handle better to me is all. now go reply to that PM. i have some 2 series parts to trade.
