Soooo, after buying the new chain break at $85, I found out that the heat deflector was gone off the muffler. The dealer put it on real quicklike for me, 2 bolts, I think you all remember me screaming about $1 bar nuts. Anyhoot, I found out when that brand new brake handle was melting off, little POed that the dealer didn't notice it, but oh well eh? Soooo, instead of the $60 new muffler, I made my own deflector sheild to protect the break handle. Question... Look at the pix. There's a slight space on the deflector at the back side, probably doesn't matter but... Is there any type of high temp silicon or anything that I can use to plug the slight gap on the back of the deflector shield??? Thanks dudes...

You probably don't need anything but if you want to be sure, use muffler cement also known as acusti-seal. You should be able to get this at your local auto parts store. Get the smallest tube they have, it's a lifetime supply.

It's the vibes I'm worried about. I tried some furnace cement on the back. Running almost 13k rpms, it didn't take long before it cracked it up and it fell on the ground, lol. I'll give'r a try and see how she holds up...

Just a thought

I would be more concerned with hot gas over and under the deflector. It looks like it can still heat that handle more than you would like.

However you could get an older metal chainbrake handle and have a heated chainbrake if you were so inclined.

Yea, I couldn't seem to find one, and the cover I've got has been gutted. I used it for about an hour today and it worked fine, brake stayed cool, but I just wanted to be certain and try to stop any that might be spilling out. Thanks for the hint eh?

Stuff some aluminum foil between the deflector and muffler as a gasket. Fold it over a couple of times to build a little thickness. Looks good.

I used a 266XP yesterday. The crankcase and gas tank were Husky and the piston and cylinder were Jonsered, that little saw ran great. A pleasure to use. It is a keeper.

Hmmmm

That might be a good idea dude. Thanks for the tip eh? About the 266, yea, I love that little saw. I've got my 44 sitting there and I still reach for the little 266 mostly. When I hit some bigger stuff, i.e. 18" and over, I yank the 44 out, it's not even close. The 266 I don't think I will ever get rid of. Last night I yanked the jug off and cleaned the top of the cylinder and the sides to make sure it was running clean, then blew everything out. They were going to charge me $9 for a Husky sticker for the new Chain cover, I kinda like my handy paint work, lmfao. And it was just a few cents cheaper than the husky sticker... :jester:
