Ok, so I know the 272 vs 044 has been discussed before but I was out felling some blue spruce yesterday and thought I'd try out my recent purchase, a Husky 272 with 18" bar, along with my 044 and 20" bar and fairly dull chain. First tree I cut was with the 044, and yes it was a bit slow (still made small chips not dust) but I was able to cut the tree down nicely and could put muscle into it without stalling the saw (tree was 28" at base; had to make 2 cuts (yes I have a bigger bar but forgot to grab it when I left home to cut- kicked myself for that). The second tree was with the 272. Now the chain was sharp (noodles!) and it has the large felling dogs but I felt like I was using a heavy version of my 455 rancher; it stalled way to much in the cut. It was really bad at first till I tuned the carb a bit richer (it was running lean at WOT- now it 4 strokes till it starts to cut) but it still stalled in the cut if I put much pressure on the handle. My 044 in a 18" oak with a new chain won't stall with the same pressure I was using on the 272 in spruce. Is there something wrong with the 272 or is this normal? I was using gas from the same can both were warmed up for a minute or more before cutting. Both carbs were tuned by me (I am no expert in carb tuning, I have just tried following everyone's advice from here on tuning). maybe I should got to the dealer and have them set the carb adjustment for me just to be safe.
