just made a bar plate to replace the stock clutch cover when milling ,works well as a bar stiffener and I also relocated the chain tensioning screw :msp_thumbup:
the stock clutch cover's fine normally and the 3120 is very well engineered and capable in stock form !! this is gonna be my dedicated Milling saw its just a precaution to keep everything in check when milling and doing long sustained cuts ..this stops sawdust/chips/noddles building up around the clutch, stops the clutch area clogged up and over heating (catching on fire under extreme conditions) if sawdust/ chips aren't clearing quick enough in a sustained rip/noodling situation. It keeps the clutch and pto bearings cooler ...there's a lot more Air around the whole area this way without the sawdust getting to thick clogging things up ...I can also change out chains without popping the clutch cover, and when using extra long bars there's a tendency for the bar to sag at the ends or middle depending on your mill arrangement ...this bar plate should help ridged the bar and mill attachment .Just wondering why this was necessary.... Is the stock configuration not adequately designed to hold the bar? Is there something wrong with the engineering?

t. . . . . It keeps the clutch and pto bearings cooler ...
My clutches always run quite hot.Not the "keeping the clutch cooler nonsense' again? I thought we knocked that one on the head in the other forum. Someone else tell him the clutch does very little work on a milling saw - he doesn't seem to believe me. If your clutch is running hot then there is something else not right.
thanks mate, just some ideas I'm throwing to together from stuff laying around, early stages yet tho ...yeah its cast magnesium alloy. My clutches always run quite hot.
WidowMaker1, is your plate a casting ? Pretty impressive craftsmanship.
