Which of the two saws is better for dealing with big wood. This spring I plan on buying one of these bad boys, but do not know which one to pick. I am looking for which of the two is more powerful, out of the box or even modified.

Im a husky guy but the 3120 in stock form wont cut with the 088 only if you leave them stock If you modify them then I would take the husky

I have the 3120 and so far I'm very happy with it's performance. I bought this mainly for sawmill use but I do use it for larger tree felling as well. I like the fact that I can mount any Husky bar and chain combo on it. I think the 088 is limited to only using a bar made for the 088. The lever to increase oil flow on the 3120 is a nice feature also.

I've got four 3120's two are stock. I have ran them side by side on a landing before with 088's. The only thing non-stock on my two stockers were the 10 tooth sprockets. They made the 088's look like red headed stepchildren. The torque of the 3120 really responds to larger gearing. Just my opinion

the new 3120 has a rev limiter in the coil that I dont like but you can take a coil (grean coil) off a 394 and put it on the 3120 it does make a big difference in the saw If you want to modify the saw with a coil and muffler mod a 3120 is great saw But without the mods my opinion is the 3120 is a little slower Both saws are very good quality wise and should give you years of good use
