hey all ,getting myself a new 3120xp for milling this week ...anyone here using one/own one? whats the best set ups you've found for big hardwood. eg: .404 or 3/8 chain ,normal skip or double skip chain? ... a 42" bar comes with the saw. I'll get a longer bar when needed ..gonna run the saw with the 42" first and get a feel for it (run it in). What length bars have you used without Sag problems ? (I guess Cannon bars are the stiffest???) any thing you can recommend/advise would be appreciated .cheers

I run 3/8 .063 or 404 .063 on My 880 stihl. I was experimenting with 325 .063 on a 42 inch bar. My experiment was cut short due to work picking up. I'll probably give it another try soon.

Currently I have a 56inch cannon that I'm not having any sag issues with.

I have a couple 3120's and ran 404 for a couple years. about 8 months ago I switched to 3/8's 63 and I will not go back. The reason I had the 404 on there was for the 84" bar. It is too thick for the 3/8" chain. I found I just don't use that bar very often. For the long run I will probably just set up one saw with 404 and the other with 3/8. The 3120 is a great saw but I would still recomend having it tuned. I sent mine up to walkers saw shop and those guys are awsome. The muffler mods are loud though. I think I have lost some hearing thanks to that.

This is when it was fresh from their shop and still looked pretty View attachment 210093

yeah I've lost some hearing from saws too ...fell a lot of hangers and dangerous tree's, I tend to not wear ear muffs so i can hear the tree cracking easier ... that bar looks awesome ,makes the saw look tinny ...

I use a 3/8" x .063" chain ground between 5˚ to 10˚ on the 3120xp.
I first tried the original .404' x .063" chain but it needed way more power than the smaller one.
