What's everyone's thoughts on this engine in a bucket truck? I've had a 3116 and i had no complaints with it just a little slow...

You got a manual? I'm wanting an auto. .. wondering how they pull?

i have a 3126cat in a chevy 8500 with an allison 6 speed auto n it pulls great. it has 95000mi on it n that cat starts so easy. i love the allison automatic, though it was somewhat sluggish on the hills in Pa. Once I learned how to keep the RPMs up by manually shifting the pushbutton auto selector, it was fine. 70 mph on interstate for 16 hrs with no oil usage. Had rust to contend with, otherwise it's a good machine. GVW is 36000#, a tad heavy on yards. Love that tool!

Mine is coupled to an Allison md 3060 tranny. Easy as hell to drive but it takes a while to shift when it's cold. It pulls good, real good. But not as good as if it had a 6 speed manual. I'll take the Allison though.

Oh, and he's right about it starting easy. No plug in needed for starts down to 0 degrees

The 3116 and 3126 are both medium duty, "throwaway", engines. They can not stand much abuse or neglect, and once they get weak, you throw them away. Rebuilding either engine is not a good, or economical option. The 3116 actually has a much better reputation than the 3126. Neither are powerhouses, but they can be dependable if they receive regular service as recommended by Cat. Let the oil changes go too long, and neither will last long.
I have had 4 trucks with the 3116, and all had well over 300,000 miles and were running good when I sold them. I do not have any personal experience with the 3126, but do know that a lot of people feel they are kind of "fragile".

There are 2 3126's. Mechanical or electronic injection

The biggest problems with the huei engines since they have age on them is low low oil pressure which won't actuate the injectors properly. 40 psi is minimum

These engines and c-7s in equipment, where they were loaded all the time, would wear pump every 3000 hrs and injectors at 6000.

Just like 3116s, keep the valve train adjusted
