That it's small  ...I ran it on a friends 044 Mag once for a day and really did'nt like it,just seems small for a mid/large saw..

Hi Rich,

I run 3/8 on my 372.If I did go to .325 I would mate it with a larger sprocket to increase chain speed and take advantage of the saw's torque.JMO

I, along with a lot of other carvers use 3/8 lo-pro on saws that size. We get a smoother cut and the speed is just about the same. We also bore cut in some awkward positions and the kickback isn't nearly as bad.

I ran .325 Stihl 23rs chain on a 24" bar on my 044 with a 9-tooth sprocket for about three months in small timber cutting around 160 sticks a day. The cutting speed was about the same as 3/8 using an 8-tooth sprocket but the .325 was better for limbing, less vibration and wear and tear on my hands. If you square grind that .325 it cuts fast but shortens the life of the tooth greatly.

I put the .325 -16 inch bar with RS from my 026 on my 066 with both 9 and 10 tooth sprockets.

Other than entertaining me for a few hours, and yeilding a cord or so of fire wood, it was a waste of time. No precievable gain in cutting speed at all and the chain dulled rather quickly compaired to 3/8.

I wonder if the .325 RS might make a good combo for milling?

Yes, .325 is very nice for milling. I have used oregon's .325 with a 9 tooth sprocket on my 090 and it cut much quicker than the .404 skip I had been using.

I heard that if 325 is square ground it will cut pretty fast. Walt Galer said that. Actually, it has been my finding that after learning to square grind on my Silvey, everything is much smoother and faster, plus the terminal parts dont wear as much, since the angles are like 2 razor blades intersecting. 33RS and 72LG adapt very well to square grinding. Gentle is the key.
Does anyone know where Dozer Dan is?

I see Dozer Dan logged on every now and then but he hasn't posted in awhile. I've also sent him e-mails a couple weeks back about parts but he hasn't responded. Time will tell.

I tried a chisel bit file into the tooth of a new Oregon .325 chain but didnt think it would fly. Anyone square file .325?

I finally got to run the saw with the .325 chain on it. I didn't see any noticeable difference between the .325 and the 3/8. The upshot is that the extra .325 chain that I have will not go to waste!

i guess when the powers their,it probably negates any gain from closer drivers. probably like the, going opinion
of the previous posters.

Milling with .325?

Woodbeard,
How do you grind, (what configuration) your .325 chain for milling?
