Hey Guys,
After all the advice from you guys and alot of prayer asking for forgiveness from the Stihl Gods, I bought the Husky 346XP. This was the first weekend I got to try her out. Let me tell you this is one hell of a little saw. Very well built and really nice to run. She really does scream. I hate to say it but it might be nicer than my two 026s. So thanks for all the good input on this saw.
The next question is whether to greffardize or walkerize. Are there any advantages of this on such a small saw that is already really fast.

Woodho
May the Stihl Gods forgive me!

Everytime you buy a husky a little Stihl dies  Shame on you. But you did buy an excellent saw and you'll be happy with it everytime you pull that cord. Have fun.

Woodho, don`t feel bad, little Stihls are dying all over the place, all the time anyway. LOL, Anyway I just had a 346 done by Walkers and it was shipped last Monday, should have it soon. I talked to John Walker about the 346 , and he told me how they had just done one for their shop use and it was phenomenal. He told me that they were running a 28" bar in a 3' log and it just screamed through it. He also enlightened me about how Husky intentionally made the bottom end on this model very strong with extra large, high quality bearings, and a real good crank. It`s his opinion that this is going to be a very good saw and has assured me that the 346s are cutting rings around the 026s, Walkerized or not for either model. Don`t mean to say that a stock 346 outcuts a Walkerized 026, just modified to modified. i`ll let you know what i think when I get mine. Russ

It's OK Woodho. I am the HuskyMan but I went and bought a Jonsered 670 for my big saw and I have been in heaven since. We all cheat a little on the side. I think confused is having a memorial service for you in Grand Rapids, I heard about it on the news. Wait until Otto sees this thread

Russ, let us all know how the 346xpw runs if it runs better than my 026w i will order one asap !!! Eric

I would forget my head if it wasen't atached!!! You guys running 325 or 370 pitch chain on the 346 ?

Pitch

Hey Woodsjunkie, we run full 3/8s pitch after Walkerizing, and John won`t sell one with less than a 28" bar because he doesn`t want anybody over- revving them.:D LOL I don`t know how your 026 runs, I`m sure it`s great, but you saw what I posted earlier, and it`s a true quote from John

congrats on your new saw!! i want one of the same as well asap!! stick a 3/8" 050 chain and a 16" bar on it and let her rip.

Well you guys talked me in to it  , Just orderd one from walkers 20'' bar 3/8 .050;)

Hi There. I am a 346 fanatic as of late. I havent run one yet, but both Walkers and Ed Heard said its the fastest saw in the 0-55cc. class. I bought two of them, one off to Greffard for limbing and one off to Ken Dunn for stock appearing class. When I hit the jackpot again I will send one to Walkers as well.
Stihl lovers need not to worry, Stihls have twice the resale value as Huskys, but thats of no consequence to me, unless I come across any good used Stihls, the older the better. I sold my Walkerized 026 to Harwood from Florida with a 16" carving bar, he is sure to dazzle em all at Ridgeway and may very well be the first in Fla. to own one, now thats class!
Anyway, heres a picture of Corrine with the new MS260 Arctic.

John,

Are those you're tractors in that pic. Cause if they are ???? your one lucky man. I would love to have a big tractor just to play with. Challenger 95E would be my choice. Sorry if this is off topic. Just thought I would ask.

case, mf, deere,

theyre all the same - valmet makes the best tractors in the whole wide universe;) kubota is a great little one.

PS. ...just trying to lure you all in...

Hi confused, the tractors were at my saw dealers, he sells Case, Kubota and Ford. I hope I am not getting a false reputation as being effluent. I rent and my only worldly items are a truck, skidder, kubota tractor, canoe, a few saws and a few King cans of Molson Canadian Lager Beer. My life exists as bust or boom, but I wouldnt have it any other way. Im basically like the rest of you Timber Tramps.
John

nothing like beer and saws - and tractors - and arguments and bust boom cycles....and....

PS. john - you have a kubota which is great! why dont you trade the dodge in and get a toyota tundra?:D

Hi Otto, thats a great idea, I will buy a Tundra Toyota, mount a stihl 070 with 36" bar on the hood and go visit the Chainsaw Lesbian, but will I ever get out of there alive?
On second thought, I think I'll keep the Dodge.
If you cant ram it, then Dodge it!
John

the chainsaw lesbian would love your new tundra - you would never even need a winch for your truck - just for tree use:) and she might think youre really smart and be a good friend to you and let you use her makita:eek:

PS. the payload has been great - i have not been able to fit more stuff on the bed that the truck has been fine to drive with... well once i did have my 136 kind of close to the tailgate and it kinda squatted:rolleyes:

Hi There, I once owned a Toyota 87 One Ton. And that was the payload. I bet I delivered over 100 cords in that truck and I remember once having a log truck load 200BF of Rock Maple on it.
The Toyota met an early demise when I by accident, I dominoed a large Cherry tree across the front, it never was really the same after that, but I drove it for two more years after fixing it with the blunt end of an axe. I think its a truck that takes alot of killing, kinda like a Porcupine.
John

lol:p thats a story that could be repeated a million times - the buggers work! and keep us happy who work and have to have one to work with...i know it doesnt have a 454 or a 460 in it but its still faster and it ALWAYS works - thats $$$ for me and that makes it the best truck (for a 1/2 ton)- :D - were off topic now arent we...

PS. faster is always better

ps - rock maple - see saw right? laughed at that video john...:p that tree is close to what you put on the truck then...-30% thats a load.

Guys,
You guys are great. I feel better about my 346 purchase already.
Now what about all this walkerizing and greffardizing. Can you guys explain all this stuff and its advantages. I'm just a simple wood whore, prostituting myself for a chance to use my saws in the woods. I don't know alot about all this engine stuff but I've become curious reading all oyur posts. Up here in Mass there aren't too many true woodsman left. Thanks for your help.

Woodho
