I have been considering a Husky 350 for firewood duties, and came across the 353. Other than the small displacement and H/P I can find no differences.
Any ideas?:bang:

yep

the biggest differnce is the way the bottom end is constructed, the 353 has a standard metal bottom the 350 has a modified horisontal split case that bolts to the same top end. the underside is all plastic. the 350 has a spur sprocket, 353 rim. The 353 has the pro quick disconnect top. the350 uses screws.

Buck pretty much summed it up. Should you want more info, this topic has been covered before, so a quick search back through the archives will have all the answers you could desire.

Of the two I'd buy the 353 over the 350 any day, for the small ($40 or $50) difference in price.

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly new to this site, have been reading various posts for awhile but just signed up. I have found it informative and quite entertaining.

Either saw is a good saw. The 350 is great for homeowners not wanting to spend the money. But if you are cutting a lot of wood then look at the 353. But at that point, I would recommend the Dolmar 5100. twice the saw of the 353.

BTW, the new 350's and 353's have the same displacement.

Hadn't heard of Dolmar saws until discovering this site so, I don't know alot
about them other than what you can get off their web site. Sounds like a pretty solid unit. How do prices and parts availability compare? Don't know if any dealers are in this area, I'll have to look into this. :blob2:

Parts availability is hit-or-miss. Some areas have dealers who take their Dolmar products seriously. Other areas have crappy dealers or no dealers at all. As for parts, there are a number of Dolmar dealers here on AS who are willing to help out with saws and parts if you don't have a nearby dealer.

As for price, they're probably the best bang for the buck out there. This is particularly true if your dealer sells below list price, but even at full list price they're still a darned good value.

Actually, the 350 and the 353 look the same on paper, but the 353 is pro-quality, and the 350 is not.
To further muddy the water, the 353 and the 346xp are the same chassis, and if you buy one, they use the same owners manual. In other words, the 353 and the 346xp share more characteristics than the 350 and the 353.

Go to a dealer, and see if they have one that you can try. I have had great luck with helpful dealers around here. It is just really hard to tell what you are getting online, or out of a catalog.

When I was shopping for saws, I had the same question. Everything I read showed the 350 to be the same as the 353 except for the plastic case (and 0.1 hp).
I started to read the reviews of the saws. The review of the 353 convinced me. The first line was: "If you're going to use a saw all day, every day, this is the saw for you."
I'm not a professional, I don't use a saw "all day, every day."
So I bought a 350 for less than $300; the 353 would have cost 30% more.
I'm very happy with my choice.

FWIW, I've had a 353 for about two years, and it's taken all the use and abuse I've thrown at it. Because I'm an amateur, I recently needed to replace the bar and chain, but that was no fault of the saw, just the operator. :chainsaw:

My first saw was a Chineese McCullough, so I was wary of "cheaping out" again. I'd rather ratchet up a couple notches more than what I need.

Lots of good info out there, Glad I signed up and asked the right people.
Local dealer doesn't have a 353 in stock but the dealer "Back Home" probally
does and might let me take it for a test ride.
No local Dolmar dealers, the closest one being a couple hundred miles so it would probally be best to stick to the Husky. Used a 268 in the working in the
woods some years ago and had good luck with that so I'm kinda partial to orange colored saws. Thanks for all of the feedback

Yes, Thank you dear sir.
I did exactly as I recommended, thanks to your advice, and the 346xp is SMOKIN.
It revs up and doesn't even show a sign of bogging down.
I used it to cut up about a 34" red oak, with only an 18" bar, (just to see how it would fare) and it was fantastic.
This damn site has me addicted.:dizzy:

......
That is correct, except for the engine characteristics......

Are the NASCAR 350 Huskys the latest models? If not, is there much difference between the NASCAR and the latest model?

I don't know about the Nascar version, but the latest US (EPA) version is the one with the 51.7 cc engine - a slightly downrated version of the 353 engine.

All the earlier ones has the 49.4 cc engine.
