I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. What am I missing. The clamp just won't fit.

This is what I use part number 537251302. Stuff the boot through the partition wall ,slide clamp over partition. Then slide boot over intake on cylinder ,set clamp. The clamp can be a bit a pain to set.

Looks like most of OP's ring on part 62-01 has been cut off or broke off. Part 63-01 goes inside 62-01 and OP's pipe clamp then wraps around 62-01, squeezing 63-01 to the cylinder.
Doing it like thay leaves a considerable gap that doesn't get pressure from the clamp applied to it. Hence cutting the old built in plastic clamp off and using the new metal clamp directly on the rubber intake boot.

That partition is not the one I'm using. I couldn't get it to fit either. I've got a few of the clippie clamps but I'd much rather have the screw type. Cutting the plastic ring looks like an excellent fix.

I have used 537 25 13-02 on several rebuilds and it works great. I am not a fan of the metal clamp in the kit and opt to spend an extra $4.99 on the metal clamp shown below (OEM clamp for 268, 272 & 390)):

Genuine Husqvarna Intake Hose Clamp
Part #: 588 77 55-02

I buy both parts from HL Supply since they are typically in stock.

I'd have to go pull a saw apart (one I have steel banded to replace plastic clip), but I'm pretty sure as long as the clip parts of the plastic loop are trimmed off- it is possible to get a 372XP clamp over the plastic- not easy- but possible.
With a Stihl 066 clamp band, you can certainly go over the trimmed plastic.
