hey just got my new 357 and once i get er broke in i want to mod my muff. my ?'s are how big of a hole can i go on this size saw, should i remove anything from the inside of it and jetting. on the jetting in my manual there says there is "screw movement limiters". are these going to cause me problems when i go to tune it? my saw was built in 2004. any help would be great.

Whoa...you have some reading to do! You're questions have been covered extensively in previous posts. Timberwolf wrote a good thread where he actually performed a series of timed cuts with different muffler openings to determine the ideal range for a stock saw. The limiter caps on your carb can be removed - again, covered in previous threads.

Do a search, do some reading, and report back with specific, detailed questions. We'll all be glad to help.

You'll need to pull your limiter caps after the saw is broken in if you're going to mod the muffler. You can accomplish this a number of ways without damaging the caps so you can re-install them after getting the correct tuning range set on your carburetor. Stihl and Husky both have a threaded tool that pulls the caps but I just a wood screw, screw it into the small hole on the head and use needle-nose pliers to pull it off. When you get the range set, pop it back on. Give yourself some leeway for future adjustments as the saw will continue to break in and want to eat more fuel.

Book a day or two ff and do a search on muffler mods, there must be a hundred threads.

A lot depends on what you are trying to achieve as far as what you want to do.

Great choice the 357..hope it serves you well. As Four Paws and timberwolf said, the search function will be your friend for help.

I have never had a reason to mess with my 357. I would wait until the warranty period expires before tweaking it (or have the work done by the local dealer if they will agree to it and it doesn't void the warranty).

Deal would not do this if he was towing the compnany line, it will void the waranty for all intents. If you do choose to do a muffler mod once the waranty is up you will ask yourself why you waited.

But each to their own. I got a good giggle last time I purchased a new saw when I handed the warranty card back to the dealer and said "thanks, but I won't be needing that". The puzzled look was priceless.
