I purchased a used 357xp and have made a few installations of new parts. While talking to a ex Husky dealer who has been out of doing saw work for several years he pulled over my saw and told me I had purchased a saw with poor compression. As you pull it over it makes a a sound as if air is being release similar to a bad gasket.

Isn't this saw supposed to pull easy as it has a internal compression release system. Is it true the old system had a push button and the new system is internal and works automatically?

Thanks

If yours has a little black hose that goes from the cylinder back towards the carb it's the automatic decompression version, otherwise it'll be a little button on the cylinder.

auto comp release

Thanks for the pdf file and the information. I was told there was a automatic version although every saw dealer was only aware of the buttom version. They where not Husky dealers but have seen and worked on them.

I have the automatic version..

Thanks so much for helping me with questions.

Your all great people

The ones with the auto decompression are newer ones that are EPA models.
It shouldn't be too old, so most likely it doesn't have a ton of hours on it, but you never know.

I've only seen one with the auto decomp, just left the shop a couple days ago, it was an 04 model, but i'm pretty sure the two new ones we have on the shelf have the pushbutton. I'll double check to make sure.

AFAIK only the older models had auto-decomp and it was replaced by manual decomp due to the problems with automatic one...

where does the hose go on the auto one?

i was thinking of changing mine over to manual but i haven't had it apart yet to see what's involved.

That adds up, and fits what I think I know........

The auto decompression valve has "issues", and you should get rid of it. You can either go to the standard push button type, or just use the cylinder plug.

With either change, you must get the cap and clamp, part numbers:537320901, and 537180001. They are to cover up the port at the bottom of the cylinder where the auto deco tube is connected.

The newest 357's are coming through with the older style deco, as Husky themselves went back to that style sometime in 2006. (My inventory was made around the 20th week of '06)
