I'm not sure how I get 33.5" of capacity when capacity is listed at 32" with a 42" bar. I'm using a 41" 105cm Stihl Rollomatic and I'm measuring 33.5". How did I gain on capacity with a shorter bar and big spikes?

I think I got 29" out of a 36" bar on my homemade mill.

If you take the log dogs off that will help a little. I'd think about drilling the tip to get the rest. If I read your post wrong and your saying you have to much capacity. just ignore my post.

Are Stihl bars measured to end of bar itself and not roller insert? Even with the spikes on I get 33.5". Not complaining just perplexed o_O

Actually I'm confused as to why I have this much capacity. Listed at 32" with a 42" bar I was expecting 30" -31" with spikes and 41" bar. How do I manage to get the extra 1.5" over the 32" listed?

They probably figure it's better to under state the size so they don't have a bunch of complaints about not getting the advertised size.

I think they assume that if people buy a 36" mill they will buy a 36" bar.
I believe they assume the spikes will be removed but to clear the sprocket nose that reduces the width of cut to 32"

The max mill width is purely determined by the length of the bar rails which will probably be 36"? so if a 36" mill is put on a longer bar the sprocket nose issue is moot.

FWIW I get 39.5" of cut with a 42" bar on my BIL Mill.

I have ordered the exact mill that timberwerks has. I had planed on using my 28" bar, thinking that a 36" was max for the 36" mill. Nice to no I can use my 42" Oregon bar and get more capacity. Thanks for posting the pictures timberwerks.

Glad to hear that, I am looking forward to getting mine. Can't wait to do some milling. I see you reside in Mequon, I use to live in Port Washington years ago. Now I am just south of the home of the Packers.

Got 28" and smidge capacity with my Home made milling contraption.

I use a 110 link 33 (34) inch bar., no spikes and the middle of the sprocket drilled.

Ran into a few that dwarfed my set-up, not one to be out gunned I found a 50"+ Cannon made some new rails and figure 44" (or a bit more) Capacity.

Had it for a couple years and haven't come across anything to use it on (YET).

Made a work bench from my original set-up, it was a shame how much we had to free hand off to make it fit!
