How do you pull the gas tank vent tube out to check it if its plugged? The tube looks like it comes out the back side of the gas tank, makes a horseshoe turn and goes down into the plastic towards the front of the saw. Where does the vent tube vent? I tried pulling it out on the front side but it is in so tight I'm afraid I will rip the hose in two. It starts to pull out of the gas tank, but I'm also afraid if I pull it out of the tank I won't be able to push it back in. If I had a small nipple to splice the line I would just cut it in the middle blow through it then splice it back together. How does the vent work? I mean I can tip the saw at any angle and never see any gas drip out anyplace. Does it just vent into the bottom of the saw housing? I'm cutting in fairly deep snow I wonder if it iced up from snow down inside where outside of the vent hose goes? I have been cutting logs that are down laying in the snow.

Next time it starts to die, turn the saw on its side and crack the fuel tank cap. If that clears the problem, it's the vent.
The vent is a one way check valve and allows air into the tank. If it works correctly, fuel won't come out of it in the opposite direction. I've cut in 30* below before, if the saw fires it's probably not icing and your not going freeze it solid in the hose.

I'm not trying to be a wise a** here but the vent works as a vent.... It equalizes the pressure. When fuel is being drawn out of the tank that area is replaced with air by means of the vent.

In the picture the end of the vent hose presses on to the nipple closest to the fuel line.

It might be stuborn coming off because its cold, try bringing the saw inside for a few minutes.

Mine is a 2007 the front (bar side) part of the hose is the out end of vent, it goes onto a nipple down into the bottom plastic. I pulled off hose off the nipple and try and blow through it back towards the gas tank, nothing can't blow through. Makes sense if there is a check valve in there. The rear (handle side) of the hose goes down and onto a plastic 90 degree nipple that goes into the gas tank. I had the saw inside the house all night so no chance of any ice. I loosen the gas cap and pressure was built up inside the tank, as I loosened the cap I can hear air under pressure coming out of the gas tank, I mean I could really hear the air under pressure coming out.. If the vent was working that shouldn't happen, and I did that after I had pulled the other end of the hose off the front nipple. I only had about a 1/4 tank of gas so I put my mouth over the gas cap opening and tried blowing through to see if air would come out the vent hose, no it just built pressure nothing coming out the vent hose. So is the 90 degree nipple that goes into the tank that the hose connects to the check valve? How do I get it unplugged if blowing backward won't do anything because of the check valve. The bottom 2 pictures show the 90 degree nipple going into the gas tank.

I started this thread separate just to try and learn how the tank vent works. I now understand the tank can build pressure, the vent sucks air into the tank, and the check valve keeps air and gas from leaking out of the tank. I would like to know if that 90 degree nipple just pulls out of the tank? I don't want to break it off. I still can't blow air into the tank either through the hose unless the check valve orifice is so small it just seems like I can't blow air through it with the gas cap off? Even though this is pretty much carrying on as duplicate thread as my other problem thread it may help someone in the future using the search function. I will have these 372's figured out pretty soon I hope. Thanks for putting up with me, I am learning.

I do not think anyone answered your question, but am sure you have figured it out by now. The green 90 will just pull out of the vent, but is easy to break. Removing the vent tube, I have used a small bit on a drill and ran it into the tube then reversed motor and pulled vent out. I have replaced a dozen or so of these and watsonr gave you the best advise for checking a bad vent (it works).
