I remember back in the '80s a 266XP shared parts with a J-red 670, but now what. How many parts do the 372 and the 2171 share? Are they basically the same saw? Thank you.

engine wise they are the same, but the Jred has differant covers and the straight handle bar. I think the only direct swap cover would be the clutch cover. The top cover would interchange, but both the top cover and air filter cover would need changed, also the starter cover is taller on the red one requiring the Jred top covers.

You might be able to run the husky starter cover with the Jred top covers, it would just be ugly. lol. You can't go the other way, though.

The fasteners, dawgs, carb, muffler, piston, cylinder, bottom end, crank case, etc are all interchangable.

Now, the 2071 was the counterpart to the 371 and the 2171 was the 372. The main difference being a somewhat transparent fuel tank and side chain adjuster on the 2171.

I have never seen a 2071/2171 with the tall husky air filter. The only filter I have seen on them is the small, low profile rectangular one that is the same as a 365. Some 371/372's had these, but most had the more roundish tall HD filter.

I'll try to get a side by side pic up tomorrow of a 2071 and a 372. They look surprising differant due to the design of the covers.

Ford and lincoln.....same deal here. Same sheep in differant wolves clothes.

Steve, I think all that you wrote above is correct.

All these saws are made at the Husky factory, as are all other current Jred models, except the two el cheepo Poulan made ones.
It all started with the 670 and 630 in about 1982, and was complete when all the Jred became 21xx-series.

The little I can add is that the 372/371 is rated at 3.9 kW/5.4 hp, and the corresponding Jreds at 3.9 kW/5.3 hp (this is possible, as the numbers are rounded off)....

Also, the newer versions weight .2 or .3 kg more than the older ones. No-one has been able to offer a full explanation of where the weight is - it can't all be in the side chain adjuster...

Here is another recent post on the subject (by spike60).

This is the only 2171 IPL that I have found on the net.

If you compare it to the various Husky 372 IPLs on Huskys web-site, you may be able to find out more exactly...

Clearance, here is a closeup of a 2071, which looks just like the 2171 in this pic. I don't have a side by side, but you seem to have enough knowledge around a 371/372 to know what one looks like.

I am both a Jonsered and Husky dealer. My Jonsered sales rep says they have quite a few 2171`s in stock, so they are supposed to be around a while. However, he also says they will, at one point, change to have a husky counterpart, such as the 575xp.
