372xp low comp. bad decomp valve?

Has any one had a decompression valve go bad ? I just bought this saw and it was susposed to be at 160 lbs of compressin but I checked it after it got to me and it took me a dozen or more pulls to get it to show 130 on my gauge witch is dead on accurate. Lookd at the p/c thru the ex port and everything looks in verry good shape not a scratch. Idk if it's just plum worn and needs some rings or if it's got a leak somewhere. Any ideas or input would be great

IIRC they can sometimes be cleaned to cure what problem they might have. 130 sounds like it could be the decompression valve. Take it off and soak in mineral sports or simple green.

Maybe squirt a little windex on it and see if it bubbles when you turn the crank.

Stock 372 usually don't have 160 psi. Most are under 150.

Yes I recently bought I next to new one that was blowing 150.

Just tried cleanin the valve and checked it with soapy water no leaks still makin olny 130psi. I'm thinkin the guy I hit it forms gauge is off a bit

because mine doesn't even come close to what that gauge is showin

Here's my 2171 (same as a 372xp) with a brand new single ring Meteor piston and no base gasket. Just under 160 on my gauge.

It's not uncommon at all for a 372 to have less than 150 PSI, but not in the 130s.

So if you are mechanically able put some new rings in her. Rings are cheap.

I don't have a lot of experience, but I can pull the jug off a 372xp pretty fast. It's pretty simple since you can pull the carb, intake, and cylinder in one piece.

I'd put a meteor piston and new ring in it and cut wood.

That's most likely Wht will be done a slug n rings base delete n put it to work
