390xp muffler mod

Curious to hear feedback from someone who has done a muffler mod on 390xp. Did it help the saw at all or just make it louder and burn more fuel? Thanks.

I removed the deflector on top & made a second hole the same size as the first, then made a new deflector to cover both. Definitely made a worthwhile improvement

Thank you. I don't weld or fabricate so I'll probably cut a hole same size as existing exhaust port and buy a pre-made deflector that will screw on.

Just good to know that it helps the saw with mod and a retune.

This is the muff-mod on the 390 I just sold. Husky parts from Baileys. A bit louder, but the saw woke up nicely.

Thanks. How big did you make the hole behind the new deflector?

I matched the muffler mod opening with the deflector opening. Tape to hold the deflector in place and a thin Sharpie pen to trace the shape through the deflector opening as best I could. Then a Dremel tool to cut a new opening in the muffler. Finally used sheet metal screws to mount deflector and screen in place. Easy and relatively quick.
