Has anyone seen this saw?
It seems like Husky is filling very small gaps in engine size within their own product line. It doesnt seem that the 390xp is much different from the 385.
What gives?
:dizzy:

I had spoken with a dealer last month who said they were shooting for this October. I have e-mailed both the US Husqvarna and International Husqvarna offices and have not heard back from them. The main difference between the 385XP and the 390XP is the bore diameter. It is 54mm verses 55mm. Here is a link to the 385/390XP owner's manual.

That, I guess, is exactly my point.
Why set up a total redesign to add 1mm to the bore?
Is there any logical justification for this?
Is it going to replace the 385?
Also, is this one of the new E-Tech catalyst engines?
Just was browsing the Husky site, and was wondering.
:monkey:

I don't know about the 390, but Stihl added .7mm to the MS260 bore a while back to overcome the decrease in power caused by changing the porting and muffler to meet EPA... Net effect to the user... about .2hp loss over the earlier 026 versions (easily corrected).

Power is power. If the saw will run stronger than the same saw chasis..... I say COWWABUNGAA.

Wish they would do it with every one.

How about a 56mm 066 from the FACTORY. I for one am all for it.

It is just .2 kW more than the 385, and still .4 kW or so shy of the 660.

On the flip side, it is a bit lighter than the 660, and probably nicer to run.

So if you don't need all the power of the 660, which I don't, I should be a good option.......:D

O.k., how much is "a bit"?

So... it's more like a 650?

I have never liked the 385. IMO if I am going to pack that much weight I am going to sling a 660 which IME has more snot or a 7900 which is on par.
I cut with a 385 on a landing one day and didnt feel it offered enough power over the 372 to warrant the increase in weight.

Lakeside, it is said to be 7.1 kg - xpg 7.3.

I believe (actually know) that the power to weight ratio is lower than for the 660, but for my eventual use, it doesn't matter.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

This saw just showed up at Baileys, still perplexed by it.
It seems like it is pretty close to a 650.
Notably lighter than a 395, but a proportionate loss in power.

It definately is the best option in the just below 90cc range.

Same weight as the 570 on up.

Anybody seen it? Ran one?

And afraid to ask - how does it stack up to a 441?

It should beat the 441 by a wide margin as it is 17 cc more, and rated at 4.8 kW vs 4.1, but it also weight notably more - so they aren't actually comparable imo.

The 390 is now on Huskys US web-site also, not just the international one.

The weight is about a pound higher than for the 575xp/570, not the same.

Musch,
Are you thingking of getting one? If you want to come down again and run the 385 more your welcome too if you want.
Bob

Thanks for the offer Bob.
It seems like a nice saw, just checking it out at the moment.

I remember you liking the 385. My 570 is great, nobody seems to like em here, but I love mine.

Haven't heard much talk since the 390xp s were available. I'm not as interested in one since I got my 7900, but I have wondered from time to time if they are as much smoother than the 385 as Husky's numbers indicated.

Just bumping this to the top. I would like to hear a report if any of you guys are running them.
