I have a little problem with my 395xp.
Long story short, it developed an occasional miss at full throttle, only happened once in a blue moon. This miss sounds more like a muffled backfire. Yesterday I was cutting up a large tree about 36" diameter and it missed three times in rapid succession then it died. When I went to pull the starter cord it was very stiff to turn over. I partially disassembled the saw and while turning the flywheel it turns but with two distinct stiff areas. I am also hearing a screeching/scraping when it gets stiff to turn. I did check the coil air gap and the flywheel is not hitting it.

I am going to do just that today. It was very late last night when I got home and I was dog tired. When I say it is hard to turn that IS without any spark plug in the head. Now I need to find my compression gage. My gut feeling is the saw is FUBAR. The air intake had no signs of dust ingestion, but I bought the saw used so who knows what happened to it before I had it.

Seized it is... new P&C should get it running again... atleast thats my quess...

I hate to agree with these guys, but, just how good are your mechanical skills? You will need that, and a checkbook.

Or, in all your shame and embarrassment, you could quietly send it to me. I'll cover shipping and not tell a soul....crap, I think I already did. Okay, scratch that thought....:greenchainsaw:

I must say I agree, I had that thought as soon as it died and was hard to pull.
My mechanical skills are excellent, just don't have the time.
The worst part is I was the one who filled it with gas,:bang: I checked and the gas was blue in color. So who knows maybe it was going to happen anyway.
What does a P&C cost?
BTW thanks for the link to the manual.

Does a 3120 P&C fit this crank case?
While I have it apart are there any mods really worth doing, I am thinking along the lines or a woods saw not a full out competition saw.

AFAIK it doesnt...

but baileys sells aftermarket P&C kit for around 250...

Thanks again for the link.
I ran across another on ebay but it has a different part number. What is the difference between the two? Other than the Baileys kit comes with the bearings and decomp. valve. I am not looking to buy cheaply made parts, just wondering about the different kits. I notice the Baileys kit mentioned EPA but I am unsure what that refers to.

I took the muffler off and looked at the cylinder walls and piston rings. They looked perfect! There was one or two very minor scores in the cylinder wall in the back side but nothing on the rings or piston where I could see. I even probed a little with a small mirror and pen light and nothing was wrong.
So I guess that leaves the main bearings, oh boy I bet this just got real expensive.

The 395XP is one of the few Husqvarna saws that I can not down load the factory service manual for. The 394XP is closely related to the 395XP and that manual is available as a part of a large work shop manual covering quite a few older models. It is a large file (4037 KB).

Models covered in this work shop manual:

I pulled the cyl off and it is just as hard to turn the flywheel as before and same scraping feeling/sound. cyl and piston look very good. The scraping sounds like it is coming from the flywheel side bearing.
