$40 Pioneer

Picked up this large magnesium deposit this weekend on craigs list.
Serial tag says P45CBW.
Hopefully someone can tell me more about it.

I've got a Poulan 455 version I think of that saw. If the same it is a cutting machine for sure. It sure surprised me. Nice score

no I just picked it up this weekend.
I still need to take a look at the piston.
compression seems fine though

Is this an early one? It looks different than the one on acres site.

Your saw is missing the chain brake that I think as far as I can remember all the Partner Pioneer saws had one if built in Canada and the airfilter setup is an aftermarket or non standard stock setup for our area. Your saw may have been set up different if it was destined for the West coast as they often required some different options added to them such as full wrap handles and less restricted mufflers. Many new owners removed the brake handles and components as they were considered a nuisance to many during that era.

Let me know if you're interested in a stock air filter set up for that saw or trading for your aftermarket set up. I'm pretty sure I have all the parts you would need.

Yeah I'm in western Montana so that makes sense.

I'm going to keep the filter set up. From what I understand it's more desirable. Thanks though.

P45 is a bit of an oddball. Great saw just a little different. All the Pioneer 40 series saws were 66 cc, except for this one which is 72. Other than that it's basically the same as a P42, which is a lot more common

That's a great saw for $40! Heavier than a 372 Husky but a strong runner. I have a couple of them, though I prefer to run my bigger Pioneers. My P45s use at least twice as much fuel to get the same work done. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.
