Can a person have a 028 cylinder bored from 42mm to an oversize and fit a bigger piston? Im just curious as a have a connection at a machine shop willing to try it if its feasible.

Yes it is possible, but you would need to replate it also. It would be more economically feasible to purchase a tecomec 028 super (46mm jug and piston) to put on your 028 AV. There are places like US Chrome that will bore a jug and replate it for you, but its over $100 per jug. For that price, your better off buying the tecomec.

Ok, Thanks. I was just looking for a cheaper way to do it. I wondered about the plating. Guess Ill quit bein cheap and cough up the dough for a new p/c.

I believe you can purchase a tecomec for about $115. In order to build up the funds for the 028 AV to super conversion you could possibly sell one of your 020AV's on ebay. If I remember right you don't have a tremendous amount into them and they do go for decent money.

One other note: Are you sure you don't have 020 AVP's instead of AVT's? The only AVT's that I'm aware of are the 011AVT and I think the 012 was an AVT also.

Good Idea. EBay seems to command a huge price for anything anymore. Plus I like this 028, I want to resurrect her.

The AVP is more of a rear handled version of an 020AV. An AVT is kinda a cross between a top handle and a rear handled saw.

I didn't think that USChrome plated closed-top cylinders (that is, non-removable heads) like those found on chainsaws.

Kind of what I herd also, but it sounds like there are a couple smaller places that will. Even once the jug is taken care of there is the issue of piston and ring. Need a piston with close to the same crown to pin height, same pin diamiter and width measurment and at least as long a skirt. Also a different ring may be needed, rings designed for nikisil may rip a chrome bore up in seconds.

For the $115 price of a kit its not worth pi$$ing around having someone bore it, someone else chrome it, buying a new piston, and buying new rings. You'll have more time & money spent trying to piece it together (and hoping it all works when you're done).

In his case, this didn't pose as big of a problem since he would be able to use a 028 super piston. Characteristic wise (wristpin size, width, pin height, etc) the 028 super piston is real similar to the 028 AV piston except for the domed top on the 028 super piston.

Regardless its not an economically feasible solution.
