i was looking into this for a friend ..if you had a choice to get a new saw what one would you all choose.

The 575 by Husky is new and in its first run, any bugs, problems etc. he will probably have to live with.
The Stihl 440 has been around several years now it has been debugged or as close to it as possible I guess until they revamp the model.

In cars I do not buy the latest release until a couple of years down the road most improvements have been affected by then, for myself I view it the same way for most things including saws.

If he wants a Husky try and locate a remaining 372 somewhere.

.

Over the 575??? Looking at the specs thats a no brainer! Lets see the 440 @13.5 lbs 5.34hp or the 575 @ 15lbs and 5.4hp..... Gee let me think!LOL In all fairness I have not even gotten to handle a 575 but by looking at husky's specs between those two I would by the 440. If I were you're friend I would STRONGLY consider a new 372 while he can!!

I have to do my job! Don't discount Dolmar. The PS7300 and PS7900 are strong contenders with better power to weight ratios, and much less expensive than Stihl!

According to two different idependant tests, the PS7300 does have a better power to weight ratio than the MS440, the best in the 70cc class. DLG tests show that it does, and so does the tests that were linked to on here a while back. It makes 5.7Hp to the MS440's 5.4, so it can carry a little extra weight and still best the MS440 in power to weight ratio. I stock all spare parts for the PS6400/PS7300/PS7900 series saws.

I think it is fair to wait and see what the 575 does after sometime has been put on one! Anytime something new or different comes out there will always be speculation on the performance.

All that has been said about the 575 probably is true.........but I won't decide 'til I run one for myself!!!

True, but it's tough for me (and like-minded others) to accept a new saw when it has a worse power-to-weight ratio than the current standard. Especially with pro saws where strong and light is the golden rule. When the older units are finally purged, new buyers won't know the difference. They'll just have to listen to guys like me say "you should have seen the saws from the end of the 20th century. They were real performance two cycles."

And no, I'm not against the progress of actual performance .

Dlg-test actually show 4.4 kw (6.0 hp - same as MS460) for the 7300, and 4.7 (6.4) for the 7900. They both weight the same as a 372XP, .2 kg (about 7 oz) more than the MS440 - and .1 kg less than the MS460.
Tony, is it true that the 7300 has a more advanced engine design than the 7900?

I have yet to run a PS7300 myself. Maybe when business jumps to the next level I can afford to keep one around for a Demo unit. I really don't think there is any more or less advancement in the design than on a 7900, but from what I'm hearing, the run very strong, and can be hard to distinguish in power from the 7900. The two saws have nearly the same torque rating.
