Is the husky 455 much better than the 350????? my stepdad is looking into a new saw and since he watches my 350 run, He was looking into a 455 but at .2hp more is it really that much better????? im trying to get him to get a 350 so we can share chains and sharpening equipment, spark plugs and such..... but i keep telling him i don't think its that much better but i figured i'd ask you guys.......

Thanks the help.

I dont know which cuts better I would say the 350, the 455 is some kind of new x torq design. The 455 has .2 more horse, but weighs 2.2 more pounds. That is not much for the extra bulk. Chains and plugs should be universal?

Chain comes in 3 basic sizes 3/8picco for little saws .325 for smaller homeowner based saws and.375 / 3/8 for most big pro saws, notihng much uses .404 so no need to worry about that. Anyway I would think they would both be .325 meaning you could share chains if they were the same length. And of couse files.

the 350 is a .325 and the 455 is a 3/8 chain

they have different part numbers....

That what i tried telling him with the extra weight i don't think it was worth it...

Both models would probably cut at their best with a .325 narrow kerf setup, 16" bar or less.;)

The same goes for the 353, which would probably be a better choise than the 350.
The 455 really isn't worth considering due to the weight issue.

If your dad is determined to buy the 455, have him get it setup with a narrow kerf bar and 95vp chain from the dealer, then you will have commonality of bars and chains between the saws.

Ok, here is my .02. I think the 350 is a better deal, Baileys has them for 279 and they come with a narrow kerf .325, 18 inch bar and chain. I think that is a good deal. I have cut with a 350, and almost bought one instead of a 359, and they are good saws. The 353's are reported to be good runners according to reports here on this site but you will pay about 75 to 100 dollars more for a 353.
I have never used a 455 however, most people here agree they are not the greatest of saws. I think the 455 costs to much, is too heavy, and should come with a .325 chain not a 3/8. I think the 455 does not quite have the power to run a 3/8 chain on a 20 inch bar (like Baileys sells them).
Does any one out there have a 350 with a 20 inch bar? How does it run? Are you using the arbor pro stuff from Baileys?

The 455 has decent torque for it`s size but I do agree that it would be nice if it were much lighter and a little cheaper. Unfortunately, the engine design is what drives the weight up.

The 350 is an underated saw for home firewooders who don`t want to spend a ton of cash. Fresh fuel at the proper ratio and having the carb properly adjusted will make the saw last a long time.

The 353 while appearing to be very similar by specs, is built much better to withstand daily use over a long period.

he went and bought the 455......... Im not real impressed with it right now, its not broke in but he got it with a 20 inch bar and i'd have to say my 350 cuts fast without as much drag than that 455......... Its considerably heavier than my 350............. my next saw i think it gonna be a 4.6horse husky with a 20inch bar i keep forgetting the model, like 365 or 395 or somthing to that effect.....

Big difference between those two saws. To help you make sense of the model numbers, the first digit is merely the series, the rest is the approximate displacement.
3 series, 65cc is a 365
4 series, 55cc is a 455
3 series, 95cc is a 395

Almost anything is better than a 350. Sorry buddy. Incidentaly they will accept the same bars and both use a WSR6F Bosch plug. Move up to a 353 or Stihl MS260. I don't mean to be offensive, but just am by nature. At any rate, happy holidays.:)

It the 365 i went and looked it up............. but anyways

anything being better than the 350???? eh I'd have to say i'd take my 350 over that 455 any day of the week....... And I don't think i'll ever own a stihl, we got a stihl cutoff saw and that thing is heavy and has no power at all ever thou it has 30cc more than our other cut off saw.......

here's my 1 and a 1/2 cents....

My old boss had a husky 51 that I used when our poulan cheapo saw died (for firewood use only) I loved it. At that time the 350 was a new "replacement model". I got a chance to run a 55 rancher (old design of the 455, and more power IMO) I was happier with the 51 and 18" bar than the 55 with a 20". I was about to buy the a new 350 when I ran across a screamin deal on two one year old 365's that I currently use. While they weigh a little more than the 55 or 455, the power is about 2 times that, and with a small bar (18") they are fun saws that rip. I run one regularly with a 24" bar and it still does quite well when buried in hardwood. I have had a 28" bar on it on acouple occasions for the bigger jobs, while it isn't the fastest with the monster bar on it, it gets the job done nicely.

350

hello all ive had great luck with the 350 these saws just dont quit. i think they are underrated also the 353 is built better but for the extra money i dont think it is worth it. ive had only 1 problem with the 350 carb boot sucked air on a brand new saw and it quit after a couple tanks of gas dealer through a new cyl piston and it been great since. the air filter set is great the filter never get very dirty. i just replaced my air filter on 2 of my 350's after about 150 tanks of fuel. one of my 350s has probably 400 tanks of gas through it with zero problems ever.
