Wakefield Ma.has 5 more 6401s left. I just bought the 6th
one. It had 30 rentals on it. Started right up. I looked at the bottom of all of them & this one did not have a trail of oil on the bottom & the oil chamber was full.
The price is $225 & this HD does not give any freebies at all.

On the way home I stopped at the city tree dump & cut some 24" Hickory. Went through it like it was pine. After shutting down I noticed that oil was puddling under the saw. Could I have the piler leak that some people have found. Any cure.

Al

P.S. Last time saw was serviced was 10/23/06. It has not been out on rental since & the oil chamber was full after sitting on the shelf since then.

Happens with many saws, usually nothing to worry about - but it might help to open the cap to let some pressure out.........:D

HOLY CRAP!!!! I saw that the troll posted and figured he'd be telling us how god awful the saw was. come to notice that his top of the line professional series sawdust makers dribble like everyone elses!
I am stunned........ :notrolls2:

For what it's worth, I put (instead of a paper towel), two small rubber O-rings behind the rubber hose where it butts up to the case and that stopped all leaks. The oiler also works much better now. I also noticed that, on mine anyway, you can't turn the oiler all the way to 'full-flow' or it won't oil right. It has to be backed off a hair and then it pumps right.

Completely random:

I threw down some customization on my bar:

Can you take a photo of your o-ring improvisation for clarification????? did you ever find a repair manual?????

No I never found a repair manual but I did find the operators manual and IPL from makita.com

Here's the direct link and you can DL the IPL and owners manual (if you don't already have them):

To take pics I'd have to remove the clutch and don't have time at the moment. If you look at the IPL and see the hose that comes off the pump up to behind where the metal plate is (where the bar rests), that's the hose.

Here's how to go about it. Remove the clutch ... I can tell you how I did it if you don't know how ... Then it's just like two bolts and the 'pump' comes off. The hose that shoots the oil up to the bar is not really 'secured' in, rather it is just pressed in by the pump itself. So, I put two small O rings behind the back of the hose which makes it press into the slot 'harder' so to speak. If you don't understand what I'm sayin, I'll be more clear and try to help.

Thanks for the tip

So I went to Wakefield and bought an other one of these saws from Home Depot. I was planning on turning it over on this site when I saw the interest, but then I was going to do it on Ebay, but then I ran the saw. I am not going to get rid of this saw now. I have an older 036PRO that I like, but this saw is much newer, and was only rented 30 times. If anyone else wants one of these saws, please PM me, I will grab another one if the interest is there.

This is a really nice saw though, and I was very impressed with the AV on it. I have no experience with a Dolmar, but it's really quick...

Thanks again for the tip,
Jason

Just got back from the Reading/Wakefield HD & all the saws are gone. Last Dec. they couldn't sell a single one. One posting on AS & Bye-Bye.
