Dam, I hope the guy is alright.
Had one take the express to the ground on me in 98.Kind of the same deal.
Stayed in the bucket, stayed conscious.Bunch of hairline fractures, bruises and cuts, but I'm here to tell about it.

Can you be more specific what kind of lift was it brand etc. etc.?

"QUADRUPLE CHECK, MORTALS!!!!!!!"

 I cannot spectate enough from under their trees. It's a lot like being the f'er at the ball game backseat driving from the bleachers for the batter or the pitcher.

It was a very old asplundh.Lat 60s early 70s ish.
The fiberglass pc that starts just after the mount for the lower hydralic snapped like a cheap fishing pole.It looked to be in good shape externally, but you could see the inner core was dirty and had probably been cracked for quite awhile.

I ended up with 2 swollen and deeply bruised ankles, jammed left knee with a hairlne fracture, bruises under my armpits going half way across my chest,a cut throat and lost 3 teeth.
Out of work for 5 weeks.
Bucket went almost a foot in the ground.Thank God it hit soggy, plush St augustine yard.Had it been hard ground,I would not be typing this.

A member here Brian13 ,which I met here last year can attest to what I'm saying.
I was telling him the story when we took down that pine for his friend.Turns out him and his friend went to school with and were still friends with one of the groundies that were there when it happen.Groundie was dating my niece at the time.

Anyway,,learned my lesson about climbing in and flying junk.
Albeit a VERY HARD LESSON
