you guys just can't resist a Troll, can you...???

Sure it works well today, but I do wonder how it will last... of course, for many, that a mute poiint... even a 1000 hours is a lifetime.

Very valid point. Thats why I find it commical when some joker fooling around his back yard comments on a problem certain saws exhibit or how long a saw will last.....
With that said I cant see the 5100 wearing out faster than a simular saw like a 346 or 260.

Good point. Single rings do wear faster than doubles.
The main problem is when you need rings for a 5100 you might be waiting on the slow boat from Deutchland to get them...... VS strolling into your local Husky or Stihl dealer to buy them.

apples to oranges

I really like the P5100S, but it sure ain't a MS361 - and not even close......;)

It is a great saw but it sure is not a 7900 either. It is a 51 cc saw and very smooth and powerful in the cut.
I bought mine for almost 100 dollars under the cost that the Husky stealer quoted me on the 346.

The big problem I have with the 5100s is that I don't have one.....yet.

I agree that there is no perfect saw on the market.

I'd say that the 5100 is a really well built performer. It is worth having in your saw collection and worth being a front-line saw for logging use IF you have a GOOD dealer in your area. If you don't have a dealer local or aren't very good with a wrench.....well, you probably shouldn't have a saw in the first place.

I think ANY of the top three (Dolmar, Husky, Stihl (ABC order)) are worth test-running at the dealer and maybe if they fall in your budget and needs are a worth purchase.

We cannot seem to keep the 5100S in stock for long. Every time I order them, they keep selling out. Weird huh? Local Husky dealer can't seem to move any saws now that he cannot sell them on evil-bay.

Ain't supposed to be............no one ever said so!!!:bang:

That is true, both are very nice saws in their own right, but some times both are considered for the same applications.

The 5100 is pretty close to midway between the 346xp and MS361, in most respects, but that may change a bit with the "new edition" (50cc) 346xp. :D :D

I've had mine for about a year. It's the perfect saw when I want a little more oomph then my 026 but am not ready to pull out the 046. It also becomes much closer to the perfect saw when you throw away the factory safety chain and throw on some real chain.

If I had to pick one saw for all around use it would probably still be an 026. I've grown very fond of them over the years as long as you're not into large hardwoods or professional logging.

I really like the 5100......even with no dealer around. I wrench my own saws and don't mind waiting for parts. I have enough saws to fill the void when the need arises!!!

Sorry, but have to agree with you again - and what I can't do, my Husky dealer is willing to do........:buttkick: :givebeer: :givebeer:
