hello saw fans.I was cutting with a friend, who was using a 55 rancher. It cut ok but just abit slow.My question is would the 357 xp or Stihl 361 of Jonsered 2165 cut faster.all be pulling a 20 inch bar

I had the 55 Rancher before the 361. They are not even in the same catagory. Get the 361 and start smiling.:biggrinbounce2:

Check with your local dealers. Some dealers have got demo saws that you can try out. You would know right away if you like the way they cut and also you will know which one feels better in your hands. The 361 and 357XP should perform very closely.

All 3 would work great with a 20 inch bar. It comes down to personal preference, cost, dealer support, etc. The extra weight of the 2165 may or may not be a factor for you. Its a strong saw with a 20". Its stil worth checking it out.

My thoughts exactly. Used a pair of them going on 7 years now. Strong powerful saws with a 20" bar. Might not be the lightest in the class, but will have the most power of them all.

BTW Jeff, the 55 rancher is not the same as the 455 rancher. The later is the sick pig. The original 55 rancher is a good small firewood saw, but a 357xp and 361 are both better choices in terms of A/V and a tad more power. The 55 was best suited with a 3/8 chain in 16" or 18" length. 18 is about the limit with this saw in moderate hardwoods. You could go bigger...but you wouldn't bolt a 36" on a ms 260 would you?

I have both saws. The Rancher is more of a high end consumer saw in my opinion. More comparable to the Stihl Ms 280... I've used both the Ms 280 and Rancher side by side and see more of a match. Though when the work got tough my Rancher died first(disconnected fuel line). I still like the feel of the Rancher though and got a great deal I think??($279 in 2003).

357 is a good saw, using the small Husky mount I believe.

2065 is a good unit, but if you are looking at that I would get the 2071 - pretty much the same weight but more power to boot...

I have never ran a 361, but I have heard good things about them.

all of these will run circles around the 55...

Are you talking to me?

Joney 2165 same as Husky 365. Got one good saw. Stihl 361 got one at work good saw. Husky 55 Rancher took off 20 3/8 bar/chain, replaced w baileys combo 18" w/ narrow kerf chain, and opened up the muffler, about $40 saw woke up sounds like a bumble bee on crack. That 55 is an old design, but unless you need a screamer every day for production, its a decent saw too.

Corey

both...

Stan, either the 357xp or the MS361 are great saws with the 20"bar. Only way to get a faster cutting saw would be to modify it or buy a bigger saw!

have Fun!!!

2165

I cant speak for the 361,but I can for the Jred 2165. I think it works great with a 20 inch bar, loads of power, never bogs down and it ate this 39 inch ash like a greedy pig the other day , see pics below.
Pick the Jred you know it makes sense.

....

Over here the power of the 361 is the same as the 2165/365 (just a tad short in the US), and it is over a pound lighter, and a lot more nimble.....;)

I'm a husky guy myself, but i do have a 361C and i have to admit, you can use that saw to do just about anything. The 357 is a fine saw, but so is the 361, you can't go wrong either way.

The 361 has an inboard clutch, which is a huge advantage for rip-cutting - but I generally agree......:D
