Can anyone give me there 2 cents on the 550xp before and with muffler mod or porting.
I used to do all my cutting with a ms261 and it was adequate but a little extra power never hurts. I realize the stihl is basically the same power just saying extra as in porting. I'm thinking of a 550xp because of the light weight and all my firewood is jackpine ,black spruce, and some birch. All cut dry of course. I also do alot of limbing on these and if you ever cut black spruce you'd know how much limbing is involved.

Thanks guys!

I believe the general consensus is that porting makes minor power changes. A MM makes a large difference (at least on mine) and really woke the saw up. Lightweight and a total screamer.

Thanks for replys and comments guys.

The big question now is wait for porting till warranty is over . This would be my first autotune and to be honest I'm a bit nervous about issues. I've heard of auto tune problems but understand many issues have been corrected.

There was some carb issues, but no auto tune issues a couple years ago. Not much talk of issues now.

Ive only owned 3 ported saws. Only one of them I got to run in stock form. That saw happened to be my husky 346xp N.E. and my ported jonsered 2153. As most know, these 2 models are the same saw. The 346xp had a new oem topend and the 2153 was practically new. I used the stock 346xp quite a bit before I got the 2153 back from Randy. I was very impressed by the stock 346xp. Once I started using the ported 2153, i felt that the porting gave the saw more attitude and made it feel more snotty. I will say, I would still be happy with the saw in stock form. Dont expect the porting to make an earth shattering difference.... Buttttt it will put a smile on ur face!!!!!

Ive owned the 550xp and we use them at work. They are great saws with good power and good ergos.

Why not just port your 261?

I'd rather have a ported 550xp as I'm biased towards Husky, but the 261 is honestly a more flexible saw with more torque and ported (correctly) could be even more flexible.

I owned a few stock saws. Then, I was able to try a lot of ported saws at a GTG. I haven't intentionally bought a stock saw since. Sure they're designed to run a particular way but I'm not a production faller and don't put production hours on a saw. The likelihood that I'll blow one up (before enough years have gone by to have a significantly better replacement) isn't enough to concern me as I'd rather have a tool that puts a smile on my face and tickles my fancy. My 562xp and MS261 are mostly stock (outside of a muffler mods which made a SIGNIFICANT difference on the 562) and are the only ones that are. I wouldn't change a thing other than to get my 261 ported eventually to have more HP AND torque.

Traded a MMWS 371 for a MMWS 562 last week, and sold my MMWS 372 this week, to purchase a WWS550. This 5 series has won me over in a big way. Only reason I went WWS is I don't have a saw from Terry yet.

Your mm562xp use to be my baby and was my first ported saw. That saw is a beast.... makes you say, who needs a 70cc saw?...
