Took it to the limit in this behemoth of White Ash. Averaging 22 minutes per cut in 46-54" at 9'4''. Have not touched the chain yet in 57' but I will next week after it ripped through the nose guard I made for it. I swear I tightened the clamp after extending the mill frame but it came loose in like 5 seconds. Finished the cut though.. 3 gallons of mix so far. The saw revs up before running out giving you time to re fuel before it dies. Anyone else have that luxury? None of my other saws do that.

Ahhh..now I get why the photos are all called coleman lamp. Very artistic photo. Looks like you had a fun time too. I'd love to find something to max a big bar out. ...just so you know, IMO, the reason your saw revs up as it runs out of fuel is you actually have it setup rich...like you should for milling. It's rich enough to keep cool....but also rich enough so it cannot reach full rpm, as it could running clean. When it leans out, as it's running out of fuel, it starts to run clean at the proper mixture, the revs go up. You'd better be shutting it down already and it will be fine. Mine does it too (660)...but only because it too is setup fat. With my clear tank I can usually avoid it, but I've run out mid cut before.

Looks good TF!

I'd be tossing the clamps and bolting the bar direct to the mill. Then you'll never have to worry about that again.

A more expensive alternative is an all ally mill - this is what happened when I forgot to tighten the nose clamp on the BIL mill.

Nut A was loosened right off (I's just changed the chain) so the top part of the outboard clamp was free to swing around. The gouges marked by the red circles showed where the chain bit into the solid ally bar. The chain was fine and I continued to cut 2 slabs of this big baby.

Thanks Bobl. I have considered drilling the bar but I hear it's difficult so... Watching the time (12-14 minutes wot) I anticipate the rev-up and immediately let off the throttle, It sits there idling whilst I fill her up. It works for me and I'm liking this ICS 633 GC or you can call it a modified Oly Mac triple 9 fatback. At only 101 cc's it's doing the work...obviously. No bogs just rippin' the heart right out of this hard Ash that's been down for 5 years.

Looks like a lot of fun. That right there is an experience I can't get with my band mill. Making me wanna buy a big Stihl

There is a fellow near me that has an MS880 w/ a 58" Stihl rollmatic on it and claims to have never been fired up. $2200 firm. I don't think he will ever get that. Been trying to sell it for 4 months now.

Timberframed, if you weren't on the other side of Pennsylvania, I would definitely have some work for you (probably in the summer of 2012). I'm basically near the bottom tip of Ohio. That's one heck of a slab you've cut! Nice job!

Been eyeballing some saw heads. I'll likely buy new. I outgrew my wheeling dealing fixemupper mentality & really appreciate warranties & dependability. I just gotta figure out what I want to do with it and find the spare cash before momma unloads it on shoes :msp_scared:

I grew up in Chillicothe area. I'm towing my saw there for Thanksgiving week, coming up in a month or so. I'll be milling lots of maple, some giant cherry, and whatever else family & friends need cut. I cut maple for myself. The cherry is a giant old growth cherry that had to come out for a cabin build. It produced 4 12' logs before branching, smallest was 18" on small end. Should be fun. Thinking of getting a couple table slabs from butt log & the rest just dimensional 1x. Portsmouth area isn't far away & still has a few scattered old growth stands on private properties.

You realize by writing the above you will HAVE to produce pictures?

Give you till mid December :)

Hud-son forest equipment has one on their website w/a 59" rollomatic bar for $1979 and that is brand new. It doesn't say if that comes with the chain.
