It used to be a common myth that trees where the cause of climate instead of the result of it.
In the 1800s people commonly believed that if they could plant enough trees in the plains that they would get more rainfall and become a temperate forest. Unfortunately there just was not enough rain to support the trees and planting more did not help at all.

they want to be OBSERVED, but only by certain folks it seems and not cars driving down the road I gtuess. That'd make for a distracting drive and alot of questions like "Mommy, what are they doing?"

I guess they were trespassing in order to do their "dogging" and so cutting down the trees makes it easier to catch them. A few years back we did a property clearing job to open up some property on the edge of town that had become a "couples parking spot". Drinking and drugs were part of the whole mess and tons of litter everywhere, including some used intimacy devices. The property owner is a big real estate developer and didn't really care until his daughter was in one of the cars one night. He wanted the clearing done within two weeks after that. lol
