6401 Carb Settings

Just picked up an ex HD makita 6401.

What are the correct starting carb settings. I think the L & H are 1 turn out but I don't know about the "S" screw.

I'm guessing your S screw is the idle speed. Just set it to where it idles where it's supposed to.

The low and high screws have limiter caps. Open the High up all the way. If it is still not enough you can heat up a screw driver and melt the ear off the plastic limiter caps. They run pretty well just opened all the way though.

slnranger....what did you discover? I just picked up an ex HD 6401 and it seems to idle a bit low and I think it could do more top end. Just wondering what you found.
