Any of ya'll know where I can get the cheapest price on 8" double wall chimney pipe? Now I didn't say cheap, I know the stuff is high anywhere, I just would like to get the cheapest price I can. I'm gonna need about 6 ft. worth to go through the attic. I want to use single wall from the ceiling down (about 36") so as to take advantage of the extra heat. I'll be about 6" off the wall and figured I'd put a standoff shield on the wall. But then if I go double all the way, (cost permitting) I won't have to worry about a standoff but I will have a tougher time engineering a damper for it. I am trying to set up an older Sears free standing fireplace W/blower that is in great condition. Northern Tool has a 36" triple insulated SS for 80 bucks but I would like to get cheaper than that if possible. Any leads would be appreciated plus any thoughts on the free standing fireplace vs. my old boxwood that the Waf likes. I know- I know , I hear ya . . . "go with what the Waf wants". :buttkick:
Thanks, Franks

BTW, any of ya'll go all the way through the attic with just single wall and staying clear of all combustables? I have the advantage of a tin roof also. Dumb question? :dizzy:

that's done often. not by professional installers, however...

i'll ask ya, you really wanna save a few bucks, and worry all night 'bout that hot a$$ fire you've got damped down for the night?

not me. i like to think my flue is capable of handling anything i can throw at it. or others in my house that may not be as conscientious as i am about building and maintaining fires...

seriously, i come home and witness what the family has deemed a fire, and i'm VERY glad i took the precautions i did with the flue..."more logs, more logs. it's not even starting to get RED yet!!!"

then i just have to ask this band of pyromaniacs if they realize it's 100 degrees in here??????
"well, no, we're busy with the FIRE here...".

yeah, i need a good flue.

Thanks for the link Cable Guy, that's the kinda prices I'm lookin' for.
I forgot the wall clearance on the back of the fireplace but I beleive I am good for 8" with a double wall. I mean after all, this is a fireplace and not a woodstove. The outer cabinet doesn't get hot. All the heat is transfered forward via the fan. I'll double check to be sure.
And yeah Cordsly, I didn't really want to always be peeking in the attic to see how big a fire I got going up there. Oh, and I don't have 7DustySaws . . . I only have 5 if you count the Sears hand saw. :hmm3grin2orange: I do like that name though. Kinda reminds me of that Willie song. :rockn:
Thanks guys, don't know why I didn't think to ask you guys first before surfin' all over the jigabyte highway.
In the tradition of Cheech n Chong . . . "Let's fire one up!"

Thanks for the link mga, it's like this guy knew the exact length I need to get through the attic. I posted a question and asked if he knows who the manufacturer is so I can match it up the rest of the way down to the stove. Then, can any of ya'll tell who made it just from looking at it? Simpson or Dura-Tech maybe? Guess I better get busy and build a base and hearth for this monster. Thanks a lot, this can save some bucks if the bid doesn't jump too much higher. Frank

P.S. Cordsly, I'm still laughin' over the 7 dusty saws. I wonder if I can change my member name? :hmm3grin2orange:

i was looking for something else and i stumbled across that pipe...and i thought...hmm....i know some guy looking for this stuff....and posted here.

i wasn't sure if it was what you wanted, but hell, it didn't hurt to throw it up there.

Just a thought but you might want to check with your insurance agent. Some will drop insurance if they find you have a wood burning inplement and will for sure deny coverage if a fire results from an installation that is not up to code. My agent knocked on my door one day after I installed the heater and wanted to inspect the set-up. It passed with flying colors but I had gone a bit overboard. The wall protector was cement board with fake rock facing and on stand-offs so there was a 1" air space up the back of it and out the top. Triple wall insulated pipe, tile floor insertunder it.
