I was at this rock climbing shop and they had sterlin htp 9.2 mm rope, for 148.00 for 200'. I was real tempted to get it as I been wanting some 10mm snakebite for a while. It was rated for 5000+ pounds. What stopped me from buying it was it said ''escape rope''. Iv been using 11 mm rope for a while and pretty use to it. And snake bite comes in 10mm. Is 9 mm getting a little to small for arborist use? And what do they mean by escape rope? I would be using it with a gri gri on the rads for SRT. Anyone climb on 9mm?

Read the last sentence, he states what its use is.

I use 7 & 8mm static rope as secondary lines. I trust it. It wears well for drt. And thats the extent of my tree experience with it. My concern would be if you damaged the jacket. Theres not much there and with a mechanical device if you lose the jacket, your gone. Escape rope is another way of saying its not for daily use. Its small enough to always have a length on you to bail. Because of its size, it cannot sustain compromises to its strength and still be considered a life line. I've done a decent amount of rock climbing. I was trained well. Its pretty different from tree climbing. If you climbed up rocks by climbing ropes, you would eventually cut through your rope and fall. So when you buy a rock climbing rope, its intended use is in rock climbing. Thats why its an "escape rope". In the tree world it will perform different tasks.
