A few Husqvarna 266 XP questions

The serial number tag says Husqvarna 266 SE, 7110842, Electrolux Motor AB Sweeden. Through the search function, it seems there were many different variations of this saw. The fact that the serial number tag says SE and the outer covers say XP kind of supports all the minor confusion associated with this model saw.

I am trying to figure out what gauge chain the bar takes. The bar numbers are 0-380-84, 2450 7751 Ft , 3/8, Made in Canada. I got the 3/8 and 84DL, I just don't know what gauge chain it takes. The bar is in very good shape and is the original to this saw I believe.

I know most of you hate the next question, my apologies in advance. The gentleman wants to sell the saw and wants me to name the price. I want to be fair and was going to offer him between $125 to $175 dollars. I don't need the saw, but it is in very good shape and would make a great saw to my small but growing collection. Any ideas ?

That is a beauty of a 266!!! Under $200 would be a steal in my opinion (We all love a deal, so i hope you get it for that!)....I would be able to sell a nice 266 like that here for about $350.

Your bar looks like a 24", 3/8", .050 gauge.

I seen one the other day at the pawn shop for $195 it looked as good as yours but the compression felt pretty low

That is one very clean looking husky. If you have to give 250.00 its still a great buy. Looks to be a 1987 model. They are a great firewood saw. Rick!

That saw would fetch $350 on eBay. An offer of $200 would still be a steal. I couldn't find a completed listing on ebay that was comparable, all were in much worse shape.

The info on the tag is probably most correct as the covers are easily replaced. The SE is the older version of the 266.

Yeah, but the date of mfg is 1987, the same year that the black serial tags came out. According to Mike acres site, the 266XP was introduced in 1981. I'm pretty sure that the 266xp's normally say "se" on the tag....

So the "1981" year introduced on Mike acres sight must be wrong:

I looked through the IPL's and appears they changed from the "SE" logo to the "XP" logo in 1987.

Don't forget that you do not need the saw. If you got it for $175 you wouldn't be stealing it from him. I sure can't imagine the $350 folks might get for one on EBay. Mint max. would be $250 for me. Some are almost 30 years old. They are nice, I have one.

Here is a picture of the tag and some more after I cleaned it up a little. I am pretty sure this saw has all the original parts, including the bar. I flushed the gas tank and the oil tank, refilled them, set the carb. to 1 turn out on both circuits and it started on the 3rd pull.

I need to order some items from Bailey's. But other than normal wear items, this saw is in fantastic shape.

I know different areas seem to have different prices that saws will bring, but around here the 266 is one of the "legends".....I have put quite a few together now, not quite as clean as the OP's pics, and I have yet to have one last more than a week with a $350 price tag on it. :msp_thumbsup:

glad to hear that, maybe I'll sell mine. I sure don't see it.. for another $100 I feller could find a clean 372.

Yup, it looks like you've got an all original, mint 266xp, sweet!
This is just me, but I wouldn't use it much... its too pretty. I always either sell them, or sit them on a shelf and look at them. I always fix a nasty one for my own use, that way I don't feel guilty, Lol.

SkippyKTM, I know exactly what you mean ! The other day I went out to my BIL's house and cleared out some blow down tree's from his property. Your probably going to laugh, but I always take my Stihl 025 and I use that saw the most. For a homeowner type saw, it's my go to saw for the little stuff. I just put an adjustable carb. on it and wanted to get the saw running in some wood. I did use my new to me Stihl MS 200t just to try it out. That saw is a fantastic small saw! I now know why they are so expensive brand new. What a little fireplug!

I did take the muffler off the 266 and all is well. I will take a compression reading tomorrow and post it.

This was the compression after 3 pulls. Very happy with it. This saw runs really well.

I paid the gentleman $150 for the saw. I actually tried to pay him $200, but he said that was too much. He didn't have any use for the saw and that $150 was actually more than he expected. I did ask him if by any chance he had an old Stihl 090 laying around that he wanted to get rid of, but he didn't. LOL!
