well I finally got a chance to do some of the things I have learned from this site.
When I found this site I had an 025 thats been a great saw although I know more about how it rates now. Any way I started reading this site and when I found an 036 for $225 I jumped at it. It looked great, old but not used or abused.
Anyway I have been slowly buying up tools and things needed to care for it

Today I ran a compression test. 160lbs
replaced the chain sprocket, greased the needle bearing, put a new 20inch bar and chain on it.
New spark plug, fuel line and fuel filter.
I also used my new tach (EDT-8) to set the carb.

I loved every minute of it!

I did however come away with 2 questions
1) when I set the max rpm I noticed I had a lot of chain oil running out of the bottom of the chain cover. The chain and bar was properly covered in oil.
is this oil accumulating because the chain wasn't in wood? or do I need to look for a problem?
I have never run one wide open out of wood

2) in the top cover, next to the spark plug I have a rotary door. There is no mention of this in my owners manual or my shop manual. I figured it was to provide warm air off the cylinder to the carb. If thats the case, when should this be opened and or closed? it was 1 click open when I got it.
I closed it figuring the Tennessee summer would be enough. leave it closed? or open it this fall? :newbie:

Good buy...

Below 50F- open the door; above, close it.

The oil is probably o.k... take your bar off and watch the oil hole. If the oil is comming out at a nice flow, you're o.k., If not, you need an oil hose kit... and you'll learn a bit about 036 clutches etc in the process.;)
