That's one way to beat the summer heat! Looks like you had quite a hike there. Awesome, but don't think I'd want to live there. :)

april may????? that was 2 weeks ago. i was on the breihorn 4164m. i was only in zermatt for 4 days and was only able to climb 1 day. there was constant cloud cover in the higher elevations. the weather wasn't supposed to get better until after i left. i woke up one morning at 9:30 to clear skies, so i got my gear together real fast and headed up. i had good clear weather til about 500ft from the summit. i ate my lunch on the summit and the clouds came in super fast. since i was solo and visibility went to about 100-150 ft i bailed. there was alot of peaks with no tracks on them due to the huge volume of snow this summer. avalanche danger was high. the guide weren't even doing the matterhorn because of too much snow. i met 2 americans who were in zermatt for 8 days and were only able to climb 2 days. good eye for spotting the matterhorn. i was only able to see it one day because of the clouds.

Awesome Spike!! Cool great place and a lifetime of memories for you. You also got lucky on the timing of your visit and climb. Good pic, you're fairly muffled-up but you look happy.

Didn't by chance catch the Gornergrat railway up to the Summit hotel and score a sunrise did you?

muffled up??? must be the beard and sun glass's. i really didn't have much clothes on. i didn't find out where the Gornergrat railway went until my last day there. i'm kind of sorry i missed it though. i did take my wife up to check out the ice pavillion at the klein matterhon. it was a blowing snowy day. i was freezeing when we were walking in the crevace's. i was giving her all my clothes to keep warm. she was wearing more clothes than i ever wore in alaska. i'd like to check out the interlocken area if i ever get back to switzerland.

Wow, thanks spike.

I know the elevations are pretty high over there, but that looks like more snow than they had this winter, which was awfully dry.

Here's a pic my friends sent me from La Grave, a wild and wooly ski area with terrain much like Chamonix. It was taken in February. Lower elevation, and in the southern French Alps.

While I was doing other things, some people went to Interlaken, Switzerland and really enjoyed themselves. The prices were steep so they stayed nearby and found that worked well.

Megan said she felt very safe being there compared to Amsterdam or Berlin or something, and she highly recommended it to anyone. From what she said, take the gondolas even though it's expensive and touristy because the views were spectacular.
