Hi everyone Merry Christmas. My first post here but I have read most posts already. I will tell you my story and wait your replies. About 12-14 yrs ago I bought a Pioneer P39 saw w/16" bar.It has been a good and reliable saw for all these years. I fell my own trees on my property for firewood, cut them up and split them to heat my home. Its a job I have come to look forward to. Time alone in the woods with my "toys" makes days off enjoyable. I work at my own pace and relish each hour spent. I'm 52 yrs old 6'4" and 280 lbs. I have recently got the bug for a newer faster cutting saw.I have narrowed the choice down to a Dolmar 5100S.Will I be happy with this saw and how much difference will I see from my old P39?My Dolmar will come w/ 18" bar.

I bought a old Sachs Dolmar years ago used for my sister. I had never heard of them but a good friend who cut alot of wood let me try it out before I bought it. It was one high reving fast cutting machine and I bought it for her. That is my previous experience with Dolmar. My neighbor let me use his Husky one day and I was knee deep in wood that day very quickly, so Husky is not out of the question either.Just looking for some advice from people who are in the know.

It's a good, solid saw and one of Dolmar's newest releases. The power-to-weight is superior to anything else on the market right nows and it is a professional quality saw. The only thing holding back Dolmar right now is the lack of a solid dealer network, but it is growing as we speak.

I've run a 5100 belonging to a friend and it will be the saw to replace my oldest Husky 346XP when it wears out.

Yeah, Skwerl is right as usual.

I have no experience with the P39 but the 5100s is a hot little 3 cuber. Dolmar did an excellent job on this one.

The P-39 is 3.97 cu. in.(65 cc.), 19.3 lbs. with the 16" bar and chain. Seems you are happy with the saw. Do you like the power and torque? I ran a 60 cc. saw( 16-20 " bar) for many years as my only firewood saw and think that would be the perfect size for my cutting with only one saw. My guess is the P-39 would run more like a Husqvarna 365. But maybe with back or other health issues a smaller saw could fit the bill. Can you pop into different dealers in your area and handle the saws? I'm sure you would end up with a short list.

The dealer I talked to has a demo saw so yes I plan on trying it first before buying it. The reduced weight and higher RPM's are selling points. If its that much better it will justify the $375. large ones I will have to spend.
