It was a bright and sunny day. The Mole People emerged from their mildewy houses and were blinded by a strange bright light. I hopped on Old Yeller and pedalled five miles to see if these guys were working. They were. I had to zoom because they had the road posted with No Trespassing signs. Note how far away the rigging guys get.

There was a good rock to perch on right here.

Pain in the rear having to turn all those tree lengthers around. Gotta think they would have uped production considerably by bucking instead of tree lengthing.
Not sure if the increase in cutting costs would have outweighed the increase in production.

You can't see it but downhill logging makes a ton of extra work on the backend. They've probably got a pretty good hand for hooktender. That kind of show needs it.

nice work slowp!
If you're zoomed way out and there's something handy to brace your camera against (tree, post vehicle or whatever) you can get some good quality footage that way. My hand isn't that steady, but braced up against a tree I can get pretty smooth footage at 30xzoom or better.

There was nothing handy. I was in an old clearcut. If the weather cooperates, and it sounds like it won't, I can go back with pickup and tripod tomorrow. I think we go up to where it is still winter and ski today. Retirement is a biatch.

I guess this would be Downhill Yarding On A Common, Overcast Day. This time I bungied the tripod on the rack of my bike, and pedaled to the unit. Things seemed to be going very slowly. You can't hear the constant chatter that I could from the guys on the hill. Lighting was poor today. Oh well, it wasn't raining yet.

They weren't running the big carriage today.
