Wonder if anyone has adapted a Razur Sharp II to grind regular chain?

I dressed the profile on the stone to a round profile, that was pretty straightforward.

I am having a problem now getting the plate angle to be more what is needed for milling, like under 10 degrees. Right now it is grinding to 30+ degrees, and there seems to be an extremely limited (ie no) capacity to adjust the top plate angle.

I am thinking now that I will need to make some mods to the grinder itself in order to enable the cutters to approach the wheel more square on, hopefully this will give me something closer to under 10 degrees.

Anyway, before I spent too much time cutting and drilling my grinder to modify it, I thought I would see if anyone else has already solved this problem.

Dan, I wouldn't modify that expensive square grinder for round. Most guys just buy an el-cheap-o round grinder. Them inexpensive grinders would do you fine for milling chain.

I betcha you can find a round grinder for real cheap used too.

Well, that is definitely the sensible answer! Still, if there was an easy way to mod the Silvery I would consider it.

Anything can be modified, just depends on how much time and money you want to put into it.

If you count your time as $$$, it'll probably be cheaper in the end to find a good used round grinder. There's got to be 1 million floating around by you in BC because of the logging.

I can't tell you specifically how to modify your Silvey, but weigh your options and go with the cheaper of the two.

Jesus! Send it to me and I'll turn it into a somewhat used import grinder instantly. Only cost is shipping...

No modifications are needed.

Use your top plate wheel dresser and adjust it to put a long flat on the top angle. The longer the top angle on your wheel, the more blunt the top angle of the tooth will be. You will need to take a hand held wheel dresser and put an appropriate radius to match the round chain. But that is all there is to it. You won't be able to sharpen much of the gullet, but it doesn't do much anyway.
