I have 3 large redwoods on the corner of my front yard, and one of them has a root that's been growing up through my yard and towards the house which is growing larger and larger each year. The root has now broken through the surface of the grass and while I can't see where it's going under the house's foundation, it's large enough that I'm concerned it could damage the house. I'd like to have the root removed, but of course, I don't want to kill the tree, or worse, have the tree fall.

Any suggestions on whether I should have this root removed, whether removing it will damage the tree, or if I should just have the entire tree removed (I'd rather not do this if possible). Your input is appreciated.
