Any advice for the Alaskan Mini Mill or if there is a better product for the same job?

Have had a look on some sites to see the Haddon Lumber maker but it seems a bit heavy.

is there another way around making square timber??

thanks in advance

I've been using the Logosol timberjig since may. Made the jig with 2 pressure treated 1X6's. Produced a 10x8 12x8 6x6 some 2x4s and 2x8's 1x6's and other random boards and none are perfect, but I have been fiddling with the jig to make it more stable, and produce squarer cuts. I use an ms440 with 20" bar and will be getting a 28" bar for the bigger stuff. Next time I mill I will take pics and vids. Also have a homemade Alaskan mill that was given to me by a fellow who had built a 30 foot steel mill for his Husqvarna 3120. Just barely repaired it to working condition though.
What size and species are you planning on milling?

Thanks Lutty440

will be cutting a variety of species from soft woods to the hard Aussie woods and any size. Am in need of something that will produce sale-able cuts and don't really have the time to try and perfect someone else's mill although they all possibly have a margin of error that has to be considered. Problem is every seller considers their mill to be the best and get the sale but at the end of the day after all that hard work the purchaser has to live with the results, good, bad or ugly.

Need something that will produce even square cuts, have been using a circular saw but its depth and torque is limited.

Would be good to see some pics and a video of your work

I should be asking how far out are the cuts??

Finding that milling equipment and saws need the operator to perfect their short falls in manufacturing.

The Alaskan mill oiler for example blocks

and now the newest version Stihl air filters clog and break when being tapped to empty out the dust

A mini mill type isn't going to be real precise. I can get it to stay within a 1/4" for the most part. I use it to get a flat side and then throw the mill on to get boards.

Depends somewhat on the type of minimill and operator.
Not many minimills have my level of adjustment but iI can get my minimill cuts accurate to better than 1/8" - if I really work at it I can get it to about 1/16".

You can get close but setup on a longer log can be a patience trying time. On small stuff I use a square off the first cut face and then the board.
