Hi, I was slabbing a large oak with my 3120xp and it was a windless day and I was sucking alot of fumes and wondered if there were a better way. I was on the Forestry Forum and they stated that a product called Opti-2 was way superior to most two cyle oil as far as the fumes it puts out. My question is since it is used at 100:1 does anyone have any thoughts as to wheather it might hurt the saw. I typicallty run at 40:1 with other oils, thanks for any input, Bart

Hi Bart, welcome to the fun house :dizzy:

I wouldn't use 100:1 on a milling saw. Milling is really hard on saws and there is a very big difference between continuously cutting a 3 ft diameter cross cut (7 sq ft) and a 3 ft wide by 12 ft long cant (36 sq ft).

You could try a premium synthetic oil and go 50:1 like BlueRider does on his 076. This is what I would do if I could get this in australia.

The problem with the 3120 and the 880 and most modern saws is that no matter what oils is used, in stock form the forward facing exhaust bounces off the log and up into the operators face. Even if one can get rid of the fumes that can be seen or felt, I'm just as worried about those I can't see or feel. Modern lube is very good at creating particle sizes in the exhaust that cannot be seen, but that does not mean the gunk has magically disappeared - its just that it cannot the seen

I modded my exhaust by adding a 3/4" diam pipe to redirect the exhaust sideways and back wards away from the oeprator. It works really well - the full build thread is here
