I should know better than to search for chainsaws on cra*gslist! Saw a like new 034 list today. Asking $325. Met the guy. The saw was close to new. The seller was a retired Boeing engineer, and obviously took great care of the saw. He was the original owner. He said it had maybe 5 hours on it and I believed him. A little bit of negotiation, and the saw followed me home, along with the original manual. I need it like a hole in the head, but it was so clean and fired right up, I couldn't resist.

A little bit of research shows that this saw is around 14 years old. What should I do maintenance-wise to ensure that this little saw remains in great shape. I do not own a tach, and cannot ear-tune saws.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I saw that one today!!! thought it was at the high end of the price range BUT it sure did look nice!

Change the fuel filter if it's more than a year old (put in the 0000 350 3504) and just use it...

The carb MIGHT need some work - 5 hours.. 14 years... the metering diaphragm is probably stiff.

If you're near me (Duvall/east Woodinville) sometime bring it over and I'll give it the free check up.

Maintenance? Blow out the airfilter, use fresh gas - premium, and a good mix oil... Don't store it with gas over 3 months.

I remember when I got started my Pop had a 034. That was one of the first bigger saws that I got to run. I would imagine that it does need a little TLC, but it should serve it's purpose. I think that we had it for about 7 years before we put it on the rack at the shop.

Wow -Thanks for the info Andy. I'll PM you later on that offer! I live on the Sammamish Plateau.

The saw was super nice. He said it was the original bar. The chain was sharp. Along with the manual, it came with a bar cover, tools, and an extra new chain. Wound up at $280. Seemed like a fair price.
