Another 031AV Question

I am replacing points and condensor on a 031 with a NOVA module that my dealer sold me. I have read in the searchs that the pos/neg should be reversed. Is this so with this module (Module # 31-8786)? It fires when installed in both ways. I would have thought that if it was wrong polarity it would not fire. So which way?

It will start and run when hooked up either way, but if it's not hooked up in reverse (switch the ground and coil wires) it will not run well, not responsive, no power.
