So one project of the summer has been this 8x8 toolshed I've been working on (Pics below). It's almost entirely made out of lumber I milled. The couple pieces that aren't were from a neighbor who milled some lumber for his place, didn't end up using it, and dropped them off before moving. I've been working on the siding now after finishing the roof. Got back out to my milling site today, 8'6" log I cut and painted the other night. Bark beetle pondy pine I believe. Not ideal, but with a coat of stain it should work fine for what I'm doing. Still takes me about a day to do a log but I'm getting quicker. Making the cant goes fast enough but slicing off the 1" boards can take awhile. I enjoy it though, here's some shots of the finished product, stacked and stickered.

Here's a few more milling pics, think one was from milling boards for the roof, and the others were from making lumber for the framing. What I did was make a cant, then cut out 2-4" slabs, stack those together on their side then cut out a handful of 2x6's 2x4's or 4x4 material. Now that I'm doing one board at a time I've been thinking about how much faster that process is.

Think that's pretty much it for now, finally hitting a spot where I feel like I've got enough done to share it with the community here, hope you guys get a kick out of the pictures. More updates coming as I get closer to finished!

~8 hrs to make 14 boards?

I didn't realize the chainsaw mills were that bad. On the little Woodmizer we have here, can whip that out in an hr pretty easily. Best we've done is 500 bd ft an hr. Of the top of my head, 1x8x8s, 14 of them would be around 80 bd ft if my brain is working right.

Yeah it's a slower process, but I should mention that a good chunk of that time gets spent filing chains, cleaning filters, mixing fuel, removing sawdust from clutch cover, might stop and eat something at some point...

I'm hoping that with some more experience/supplies I'll be able to increase productivity, it would be great to get two logs done in a day. Not sure I'll ever be as fast as a bandsaw mill though. Might be nice to build one someday.

The boards are 14" wide.

Not sure where I got 8ft 1x8s from. Sold 50 of them to a guy today, guess from that.

Have luck with a 4" wide 1by not warping? We normally don't do over 10", and even that wide there's alot that end up being edged to something else after it warps. Or firewooded.

The boards are going up green, will probably end up with a batten over edges to help with any cupping/shrinkage.

That’s some nice looking lumber. Probably some of the nicest CSM boards I’ve seen.

That’s why I bought a band saw mill. My CSM is relegated to live edge slabs and squaring up cants to big for the mill.
