mowed an elderly lady today ... id told her,, id do it for 25, as ive known her and her daughter a good while and the husband just passed away a couple o months ago.
she ask me to look in her shed and see if i wanted her husbands tools.
he had a almost mint xl 2 top handle.. . ill keep it as its dull but runs perfect... i know i couldnt get what its worth anyway ...
the other saw is a mc cullough super 44.
very clean ,,but with an coat of dust that made it look old an in bad shape.
well she cleans up,, almost new looking ... has good compression ,but havnt tried to crank it, as i want to get into it and get rid of any dobber nest or what ever.
mikes site, says its 80 cc. i dont know if it will run or not but if it does,, is it worth anything. aint trying to sell it ,as this is how i have my fun. that ll come later and ill list it appropriately. any help or knowledge will be appreciated .
by the way i gave her this mowing and one more for the saws .she really wanted to givum to me . i think some relative or somethin was coming and she figured ,,all he wanted was her husbands tools.

...all he wanted was her husbands tools.

Quite a while back and elderly lady my family had known for years called and asked for my help; her husband had been a contractor and very avid woodworker and had amassed a really nice collection of tools, and she knew that my dad had owned a cabinet shop and that I had been in and out of that trade a time or two myself.

She wanted to know if her stuff was worth anything; now that Martin had passed on, she was considering selling and moving to town. One of her sons-in-law was coming in a couple of weeks "to help clean out the junk in the shop".

One of my Dad's old buddies operated a side business buying and selling machine tools etc. Through him, we hooked up with a small cabinet shop that had burned: the owner had a check from insurance and would buy the whole shop at a nice price just to get the two shapers and the Oliver table saw. My Dad's old buddy got a small commission, the old lady got a fat check...and the son-in-law called me some unrepeatable names:D

amen to u story... this lady wanted me to take this stuff for nothin and wanted to pay for the mowing anyway. this was no gamble on my part as the xl2 is perfect .
i didnt know what it was worth ,but john and some others ,,have suggested
30bucks ,when i ask... will i take that no way . 7.5 lbs the rakers never taken dn on the original chain. so ill just use it myself. i got a little cs300 at 7 lbs,, so ill be able to get a performance comparisom with that. its only 26 cc but an older saw. kinda wish now id held the depth at .20 instead of the .25 ,i set it at last nite.. it being 26 cc that mite be to big a bite. we ll see...
mabe a torque saw . havnt had a chance to try it yet.
what amazes me is the number of saws i pick up ,,that have never had the rakers taken dn. i guess they just figure the saw has worn out. amazin to me.

wanted to post separate for the mc culloch super 44 . this saw ,,with the exception of a service tag shows the same user . the sprocket is usable ,but worn. im thinking ,a chain never having the rakers taken dn prior to going to the shop,, would get a sprocket,,pretty quick... a young man with little knowledge and a strong arm,, could probably burn a lot o wood off ,,before he decided it was worn out... please any evaluation ,,or assessment would be appreciated..
dont be afraid to hurt my feelins . they got calluses onum... it is in good looking shape... with all paint still on ,,except on the handle and some of the yellow on the original bar is gone...
one thing that bothers me a bit,, is the huge gas tank is on top of the motor...
and heat travel up ,,last time i checked. thanks again.
